The Sailor Signal
Cottage Lake Elementary - May 2, 2021
A Note from Principal Welch
Dear Families,
Welcome to May! The month of May begins with an exceptional opportunity for us to recognize and celebrate our phenomenal Cottage Lake staff!! All of them! They continue to inspire me, amaze me, and motivate me! We have a top-notch staff at Cottage Lake and I hope you will join me in celebrating them this week!! PTA has planned a few special events for staff throughout the week, but if you would like to recognize staff who support your student(s), you are welcome to do so. Feel free to write a special note, email a special note, have students draw pictures or anything else you wish. Thank you for helping me celebrate this exceptional group of adults who support our students every day!
I will keep this note short, but please do read the sections below regarding the COVID batch testing, along with the intent to return the survey reminder. Our amazing PTA has several important updates below, as well.
I want to wish all our mom's a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY this next Sunday, May 9! We wouldn't be on this journey together without you!
Thank you for sharing your students with us!
Take care,
~ Jen Welch, Principal
•• SCHOOL NEWS ••
COVID batch testing for grades 2-5
Over the past two weeks, students and staff have participated in batch testing in both Cohort A and Cohort B groups if families have provided consent. The testing is occurring at the beginning of the school day and is pretty quick. At this time, we are testing each cohort weekly.
For a school update: ALL tests collected to date have returned NEGATIVE!! Let's keep that up, Cottage Lake!!
Attention parents in Grades 2-5:
Beginning this coming week, May 3, if you have not yet provided consent for your child to participate in the batch testing or if you have not completed the Opt-OUT link, we will be contacting you. We would like every family with a student in grades 2-5 to either complete the Opt-IN form or the Opt-OUT form.
For your reference, the links for both forms are below
Please click this link to Opt-In for COVID batch testing.

Are you planning to return to Cottage Lake in the Fall?
I am asking ALL Kindergarten-Grade 4 families to complete this Google survey so I can plan accordingly for what classrooms we will need and how many staff members we will need, as well.
** As of May 2 @ 8:00 AM, we have 85 families who have responded to the survey. We would like all K-4 families to respond. Thank you!

I would appreciate this survey being completed no later than Wednesday, May 7 @ 8:00 PM.

Special PTA Announcements!
Please read below for FIVE important bits of information:
1. It's Staff Appreciation Week!!
This new version of face-to-face learning and remote learning has put additional work on everyone and this upcoming week is a time to show our appreciation to all the Cottage Lake Elementary staff who have worked so hard for our kids! The PTA encourages your student(s) and family to show appreciation to their classroom teachers, specialists, principal, and staff. There are several ways this can be accomplished without allowing Covid to disrupt the fun!
Here are a few ideas we have thought of:
- Draw a picture,
- write a poem,
- Write or email a thank you note or letter,
- find a picture of something that reminds you of them,
- a special (pre-packaged) treat,
- surprise gift for them.
Check out the email you got from the PTA for more ideas! If you have questions, please reach out to Toni Stewart (tonismart@hotmail.com) or Tawni Case (tati1011@yahoo.com).
2. *** 2021-2022 PTA Executive Board Openings!! ***
