St. Agatha 2021 Auction Information

FROM THE OFFICE

  • Dismissal: Please remember that starting on Wednesday, April 14th, school will dismiss at 2pm.

This means that each day Monday - Friday, our school dismissal will be at 2pm for all

grades.

  • Mass in-person: On Wednesdays, we will not have a Comprehensive Catholic Distance Learning office hour time. Also starting on April 14th, we will start attending Mass on Wednesday each week. We will attend one grade level at a time. Our St. Agatha scholars and faculty will be the only group in the parish on Wednesdays. Our Mass time will be from 8:15-9:00. Grade levels not attending Mass in person will continue to celebrate the Mass in the classroom with the prior week’s recording. A huge thank you to our parishioners and Fr. Luan, for supporting us in limiting the Wednesday Mass to our scholars and faculty only to promote our health and well-being. Our 8th graders will start attending Mass on April 14th. We will send home a set Mass schedule this week. We are not requiring the Mass uniform for the remainder of this school year. Students may continue to wear the regular daily uniform, neatly pressed, but no shorts please. Thank you!

  • Supply pick up: please come at the front door, on 15th Ave, from 9 to 3:30pm. We will hand you your child's bag. Thank you.

  • IF YOUR CHILD IS WALKING HOME AT SCHOOL DISMISSAL
Please make sure you have returned the Walking Permission Slip.
Also, please remember to contact the school office and provide written permission if your child will be going home with a friend or picked up by another individual.

  • COVID-19 SYMPTOMS:

If your child or family member has any symptoms related to Covid-19 keep your child(ren) at home. We need everyone to commit to this protocol to ensure the health and safety of our students and their families, and our faculty/staff and their families. If you find yourself in this situation please inform the school office promptly. We will guide you through the next steps according to the Exclusion Summary Chart for Covid-19 (picture below).

  • MINOR 1-3 DAY ILLNESS:

If your child will be absent for reasons other than Covid-related health concerns, or with a minor 1-3 day illness, please follow the guidelines starting on page 63- Student Illness in our handbook. If your child is home ill with a minor 1-3 day illness they should not Zoom in to class. Their body needs to rest so they can get better and return to school. The days they are home would be counted as excused absences and your child(ren) will have time to makeup the school work when they return.

COVID SCHOOL GUIDELINES

During Spring Break, Governor Brown, the Oregon Department of Education, along with the Oregon Health Authority, updated Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidelines, particularly the physical distance guidelines from striving to maintain 6ft to striving to maintain 3ft.

They also eliminated the 35 square feet per child requirement in the classroom.

This is great news for our school.

Please note that while this change does reduce the amount of physical distancing required we will still promote as much distancing as possible.

DRAMA COURSES

St. Agatha will be offering Drama courses to our kindergarten through 8th grade scholars. Mrs. Molly Williams Stuckey will be joining our St. Agatha Team on Wednesday, March 31st. Our kindergarten through 5th grade scholars will have one drama class per week on Thursdays, starting on April 1st. Our 6th-8th grade scholars will have drama class per week on Wednesdays, starting on April 14th. Many of you may already know Mrs. Stuckey, she has co-directed several theatrical productions at St. Agatha. She has also directed theatrical productions at several of the Archdiocese of Portland Catholic Schools. She comes to us with over 18 years of theater experience! We are very excited for her to join our team and provide a theatrical experience to our scholars each week! Welcome Mrs. Stuckey!

WEDNESDAY MASS

Daily Mass - Wednesday Mar 31st

Faith and Cultural Diversity Committee

The Faith and Cultural Diversity Committee recommends the book .

"Black Catholics on the Road to Sainthood". We will be organizing a committee-wide book study as we continue to move forward in our mission. Please join us if you can. We will provide the day and Zoom link in a separate Storm Report. This is one of many books that we are looking at looking at the diverse life and experiences of Catholics, along with the particular challenges that African-American Catholics face. This book-study is designed to inspire all of us to grow deeply in our faith and in our awareness of cultural diversity on our road to all becoming saints.

Description:

In Black Catholics on the Road to Sainthood, Michael R. Heinlein provides the first book to explore the lives of the six Black Catholics from the United States whose causes are under formal consideration by the Catholic Church for canonization. Including biographies and personal reflections from diverse contributors, this book shows how these six men and women provide a model of holiness for all Catholics and people of good will. Venerable Pierre Toussaint, Venerable Henriette Delille, Venerable Father Augustus Tolton, Servant of God Mother Mary Lange, Servant of God Julia Greeley, and Servant of God Sister Thea Bowman are sources of inspiration for us all.
