News from Mrs. Mankin
Dear Bulldog Families,
We had a great first full week of school. Teachers and students are continuing to learn about each other and build community as we begin to launch into our first units of study in reading, writing, math, and science/social studies. Our students are curious about...books, butterflies, insects, how things work, numbers, music, art, movement, other cultures...and each other! Curiosities lead to more questions, research, and deep learning. Be sure to ask your student about new learning, connections they made today, and what they would like to learn more about.
Important information was just sent via Skylert regarding changes to our COVID protocols. Please closely review the information that was shared by Dr. Stokes. Due to the spike in numbers and the updated guidance from healthcare officials, beginning on Monday, August 16, masks will be required for all students and staff, K through 12, when indoors during the school day, regardless of vaccination status. There have also been some changes to the length of quarantines for students and staff members in different scenarios. The link to our updated "Return to In-person Instruction Plan" can be accessed by using this link. Our number 1 priority is to keep students safe and healthy so they can learn and grow at high levels. Thank you for helping us do this by following our new protocols. As always, thank you for partnering with us in education.
Have a relaxing weekend!
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin, Principal

NWEA Assessment
The NWEA test is a computer adaptive test that students take three times per school year. The results of the test reflect the student’s academic knowledge, skills, and abilities. This test helps teachers make informed instructional decisions specific to each student. Over the next two weeks, students will complete the Fall NWEA-Reading and NWEA-Math assessments. Your child’s teacher will notify you when testing takes place. Testing results will be emailed to families via a Skylert message a few weeks after testing.
Families of Kindergarten and First Grade students will need to provide headphones that are compatible with their child’s iPad for testing. Please check your student’s iPad and verify that the NWEA app is downloaded through Mosyle Manager. Thank you!

FYAP Snack Attack program
NBE is pleased to announce the return of the Snack Attack program for those students in need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday.
Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.
There is no cost to you or the school. If you are interested in having your student participate in FYAP's Snack Attack or have questions, please contact Sherri Leiner, NBE School Counselor at sleiner@hse.k12.in.us

COVID Information
Please remember to send your student to school healthy. If a student is ill and has any of the symptoms of Covid listed below, we encourage you to get your student tested using a PCR test, which is available via Fishers Health Department (COVID Vaccine | Fishers, IN - Official Website) or the Indiana Department of Health (ISDH - Novel Coronavirus: COVID-19 Testing Information). PCR tests are the most accurate and provide less risk of a false positive or negative result. A visit to your physician is also suggested if you feel this is not Covid-related, then a doctor's note would be needed for your student to return to school. Please do not send your child to school ill or while waiting for Covid test results.
