Materials Refresher
We also are looking for donations of Kleenex. We've blown through our supply (pun intended) and if you're willing to donate we'd greatly appreciate it otherwise we'll need to use our building budget for additional supplies. A huge thank you to the families that have already donated.
Statewide Assessments
Last year, the state of Iowa moved to the ISASP from the traditional Iowa Assessments. The change in format brought the addition of a writing test, along with Language Arts, Math, and Science (8th Grade only). While there's a recommended time frame for the tests, students will have unlimited time as long as they're showing progress towards finishing. More details will come.
If you wish to review portions of this test, or to provide practice for your child, you can view through the following website.

Staying Healthy
There is an expanding global outbreak of a respiratory illness caused by a novel (new) coronavirus. The disease the virus causes has been named COVID-19. We understand that the spread of COVID-19 is a growing concern for our nation and our local community. The health and safety of our students and entire CRCSD community is our top priority.
Please take a moment to review this information as it relates to COVID-19, the prevention of the spread of additional viruses including influenza, and how CRCSD is responding. You may also wish to visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for detailed information about the virus.

7th Grade Girls' Basketball
The Franklin Bolts 7th Grade Girls Basketball team had a great year! We had two awesome wins against Wilson and Roosevelt. Our final record was 2-7. The biggest accomplishment that we had was how much the girls improved. They came to practice each day and worked hard to get better. Besides our two wins, the most fun game to coach was when we played Oak Ridge. We were only down two points at halftime and it was a close game for a majority of the third quarter. It was a great season and I can't wait to see what these girls do in 8th grade and high school.

Boys' Swimming
This year's boys season was amazing! We had a great group of young men. Our team consisted of 13 Franklin swimmers and 6 McKinley. The guys worked super hard and learned what being on a team means. With many illnesses and Christmas break, the guys came back in full force for a third place win at the City Meet. This year I was able to coach with Coach Lewis, Head women's coach for Washington High School. This was her first year coaching middle school.
We both can't wait to see how this group of young men do next year. We have some amazing swimmers coming back next season.
Thank you parents for all your support!!!

Bolt Closet
We had a very successful first year of opening the Franklin Bolt Closet. For families new to Franklin, this closet provides new and gently used clothing, new socks and underwear and all personal hygiene care items for the underserved students who are part of the Franklin family. We protect the students’ privacy by only having the counseling and health center staff know who utilizes the closet. Monthly we will feature one item the closet is in need of.
For March/April, we are now accepting spring items such as new/lightly used hooded sweatshirts, shorts, and t-shirts.
We also accept monetary donations and have volunteer shoppers for the Bolt Closet. Thank you for your support and helping to ensure every student comes to school clean, appropriately dressed and ready to learn!
