The Adventure of Oreo!

Ms. Frisbie’s first grade class has a class pet named Oreo. Oreo is a stuffed dog. Ms. Frisbie’s students take Oreo home and write about their adventures together in Oreo’s journal. Over Halloween weekend Jane Lapati took Oreo home and had a very exciting adventure! Jane took Oreo to meet the author of Teddy Bear Doctor, Deanna F. Cook, at a local bookstore. Jane said that the best part about meeting an author was that it made her want to write books. “I would like to write non-fiction animals book's,” Jane said. “My books would be about animals that live in a zoo.” While Jane and Oreo were at the bookstore Jane gave Oreo a vet check-up with the help of Cook’s book.

Walmart thanks our teachers and donates $1000.00 to JHE!

JHE was selected to receive two special awards in recognition of the service our teachers provide to the Galway community. JHE was nominated by Mr. Yerdon (grandfather to Jayden and Xander) and chosen to receive two awards from the Walmart Foundation.

The Johnstown transportation office chose Galway Central School District’s Joseph Henry Elementary School to receive a $1,000 donation as part of Walmart’s commitment to education. Private Fleet truck drivers for Walmart are already among the safest drivers in the country. They drove extra carefully during the week from August 8 through August 14, 2014. For every accident-free mile they drove during that week, the Walmart Foundation made a financial contribution to local schools, donating one cent for each accident-free mile driven by the drivers at each Walmart transportation office.

Additionally, Walmart awarded 20 teachers from Joseph Henry Elementary School with $50 reward cards to purchase classroom supplies to help students start the school year off right. As part of the Walmart’s Teacher Rewards program, Walmart honored JHE teachers at a ceremony in the JHE library during our November faculty meeting.

We are pleased to announce this money will be used to support the elementary building team's initiative to purchase every student a hat embroidered with our golden eagle.
