Health Information and Requirements
The State of Illinois and State Board of Education have not issued any changes in the school health requirements for the upcoming school year and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) strongly supports the continued provision of health care for children during the COVID-19 pandemic. This care includes well-child care (school exams), preventative care, screenings, and vaccinations. Thus, students entering school in D303 for the first time (early childhood, kindergarten, or first grades); students entering kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades; twelfth grade students requiring a meningococcal vaccine and transfer students must submit evidence of a physical examination and/or a complete record of immunizations in order to start school.
Parents/Guardians who have not already done so should reach out to their health care provider to schedule their child's mandated physical examination and immunizations. Completed exams and immunizations may be mailed to your child's school, in care of the school nurse or they may be dropped off at your child's school (please check with your student's school main office regarding office hours before dropping off forms). District 303 has a first-day exclusion policy with regard to health requirements so students who do not meet the health requirements mandated by the State of Illinois, will not be permitted to attend school until such time that they are compliant. If your child has a scheduled appointment to receive vaccines after the first day of school, a physician note indicating the date and time of your child's appointment must be submitted to the school prior to the first day.
Physical Examinations:
- The completed physical examination and record of immunization form is expected at the school health office by the first day of student attendance.
- Physical examinations must be done by a licensed physician, advanced practice nurse or examining physician assistant.
- Physical examinations must be dated within twelve months prior to the first day of school.
- Only the State of Illinois Department of Human Services Certificate of Child Health Examination form will be accepted.
- Medical objections to any physical examination or immunization must be submitted in writing by a physician and must contain the required information.
- Religious objections to any physical examination or immunization must be submitted by a parent/guardian in writing and must contain the required information. Click here for the religious objection form.
Immunization Requirements:
Immunization records must show proof of immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, measles, mumps, rubella, polio, and chickenpox.
- Sixth through twelfth grades are required to have the Tdap vaccine.
- Sixth and twelfth grades are required to have the meningococcal vaccine.
Please make a copy of your child's health records before releasing them to the school.
Thank you,
Health Services
PTO Back to School Meeting

CUSD 303 Specialty Music Guidelines
We recognize the importance and role music plays in our students’ lives. With that said, we’d like to take this opportunity to provide you with the K-12 guidelines for students who participate in band, choir, orchestra, and general music.
Band
● In-person learning for all grades will focus on music theory and literacy. There will be no playing of brass and wind instruments at school including outdoors and practice rooms out of an abundance of caution.
● In all grades, students playing percussion instruments will be able to practice during in-person learning. If any equipment is shared among students (i.e. mallets, drum sticks, etc) they must be disinfected after each student use.
● For all students regardless of their learning environment (in-person, blended, or remote), teachers will create opportunities for them to play and record at home as a means to practice and assess individual performance skills, as well as ensemble work (virtually).
Choir
● There will be no singing at school, including outdoors, out of an abundance of caution.
● In-person learning for all grades will focus on music theory and literacy.
● For all students regardless of their learning environment (in-person, blended, or remote), teachers will create opportunities for students to sing and record at home and assess individual performance skills (virtually).
Orchestra
● Students will be allowed to play their instruments while maintaining appropriate social distancing.
● Students will keep their masks on while playing
● Students are encouraged to bring their own instrument from home (elementary - basses) (middle school and high school - cellos and basses) If any equipment is shared among students (i.e. cellos/basses) they must be cleaned after each student use.
● For our remote and blended/hybrid students, teachers create opportunities for students to play and record at home.
General Music
● For all grades, there will be no playing of wind instruments.
● If any equipment is shared among students (i.e. Orff, percussion) they must be cleaned after each student's use.
● Out of an abundance of caution, there will be no singing indoors in general music classes.
All in-person concerts/performances are suspended at this time. Our dedicated music teachers will look into the possibility of creating opportunities for virtual ensembles and performances during Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan. If the state moves to Phase 3 or Phase 5 during the school year, we will revisit the above guidelines.
District 303 Return to School Plan
Dear District 303 Families:
The purpose of this communication is to provide you with an update as we prepare to implement our District 303 Return to School Plan. Our District 303 task force committees continue to meet and are adjusting our plan to be responsive to the changing guidance from the Illinois
Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education.
Many districts across the state are adjusting plans, pushing bck the start date for school, and/or deciding to open in a fully remote format due to the changing guidance and expectations. The District 303 plan has been designed to allow flexibility between the three modalities of instruction, fully in-person, hybrid/blended, and fully remote. It is expected that our district will be in at least two, if not all three of these structures at some point during the 2020-21 school year.
Beginning last school year, District 303 moved to a calendar with an earlier start date. When the calendar was developed, the purpose of the changes was to balance the semesters, finish the first semester before winter break, and align with the other districts in the area that share Fox Valley Career Center and Mid-Valley Special Education Cooperative programs. Over the past weeks, most of our Mid-Valley peer districts have announced delayed openings to accommodate reopening plans.
To better align the calendar, allow additional time for staff preparation and training, respond to constantly changing guidelines, and further prepare our facilities with the needed protective measures and cleaning protocols, we are implementing the following adjustments to our plan and to the school calendar.
● The first day of school for students will now be Wednesday, August 19 2020
● The institute day scheduled for January 19, 2021 will now be a student attendance day
● The last day of school will now be Friday, May 28, 2021 (pending emergency days)
During the first week of school, August 19-21, our in-person school hours will be adjusted to dismiss students prior to lunch at each grade level. On these days, students will have the option of taking a grab and go sack lunch as they leave school to eat at home. Students will also be asked to complete a remote learning task in the afternoon.
Middle school and high school students will still follow the A/B schedule on these shortened attendance days. Bus service will continue to be provided based on this adjusted schedule.
The schedule for August 19, 20, and 21 will be:
○ AM Kindergarten - 8:00 - 9:25
○ PM Kindergarten - 10:25-12:00
○ Elementary Schools - 8:00-12:00
○ Middle Schools - 8:30-12:30
○ High Schools - 7:20-11:20
Beginning on Monday, August 24, in-person students will follow the full day schedule outlined in the Reopen School Plan. Lunch will be served at school.
Students who have elected remote learning will also begin on August 19 and will follow the remote learning schedule.
We understand the hardship and challenges these changes may place on families. We remain committed to reopening with a hybrid/blended and remote choice option for our community. Please know that due to the changing infection rate data, District 303 may need to continue to adjust our plans and eventually shift to fully remote instruction. Should additional changes become necessary, we will communicate with you as soon as possible. Our commitment to student and staff safety remains our top priority and we will adjust our plans accordingly. Thank you for your continued patience as we work together to reopen our schools.
Sincerely,
Mr. Nicholas Manheim

Atentamente,
Sr. Nicholas Manheim
Presidente de la Junta Educativa

Superintendente
