Updates
Attention Parent/Guardian(s) of Adlai Stevenson Scholars,
Thank you to all of you who have helped get the school year started. While we have faced many challenges, such as transportation and technology, we have been able to work through them together, as a school family. Please remember that when we all work together for the benefit of the students we can see wonderful things happen.
In order to keep this positive momentum going, I want to remind everybody of a few things:
- Please do not let students bring Pop-Its to school. We are seeing an increase in arguments over these that is becoming a disruption in the building. Any student who has a Pop-It that causes a disruption will have that Pop-It confiscated.
- While masks are required for all building staff, students and visitors, we have noticed that many of our students are coming to school each day without a mask. Please make sure that all of your students have enough masks and that a mask is brought to school each day.
- At this time, visitors are only allowed into the office between the hours of 9:45am and 3:45pm. Before and after these times we are dealing with arrival and dismissal and the office is not staffed. Visitors will also not be allowed past the office unless they have a prescheduled appointment.
- Finally, please do not park along the curb during arrival and dismissal. This area is for drop and go only. If you wish to park please use a near by side street. Please also do not double park or let students out or in the car in the middle of the street as this is a safety hazard.
I thank you in advance for all of your help with these items as we work to have a smooth and safe school year.

Parent-School Communication
Please remember that staff members want the best for each and every scholar and that by working together, we can be sure to achieve the best results. When communicating with teachers, please keep in mind these tips:
- Be proactive. Reach out to the teacher early and often and be willing to be the one to make first contact.
- Be patient. Teachers work with between 30 and 100 students and many times have limited opportunities to make phone calls and send emails. Be willing to wait 24-48 hours for a teacher to reach back out to you before you call or email back.
- Be kind. Even in difficult situations, communication is more effective when it is done calmly and respectfully. This will allow the focus of the conversation to remain on the student.
- Be trusting. Know that staff members have the best interest of students at heart.
