Hornet Nation News
September 30, 2022
Welcome to another edition of our East Junior High Newsletter. We aim to send this out to you every month this year. Thank you for taking the time to read the information in our newsletter each month. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
October Character Trait
We are working through our Character Traits each month. Our first four months are Excellence Academics Success Teamwork. In October, we will be talking about “Academics.” Academics will be discussed in our daily announcements and used when we are handing out Hornet Cards and nominating our students of the month. Examples of ways to demonstrate the value or principle of academics are:
Improving grades
Having no missing assignments; or making up late work
WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading)
Using Google Calendar
Being engaged and participating
Choosing challenging reading / Reading for Pleasure
Completing optional work extensions
Picture Retakes
- If this is the 1st time you're taking pictures this year, please give your picture order envelope to the photographer - envelopes are available in the office
- If you are retaking your picture from August, please bring back the photo packet you received - you will get the same packet you originally ordered with your new photo.
- Student ID cards will not be reprinted with new photos; only students that are having their photo taken for the 1st time will receive ID cards.
Do you need to order pictures?
Find your school’s retake day date and order information on mydorian.com by searching for your school.
Parent/Teacher Conferences - October 19th and 20th
October 14 is the last day of the First Quarter. We will have Parent/Teacher Conferences on October 19 and October 20 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
Our Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held in person at East. Our teachers will be in the Cafeteria where you can meet with them to discuss their grades. If one teacher has a long line, we recommend you go to a teacher with a shorter line first. We try to keep each conference to less than 5 minutes since each teacher can have up to 160 students.
If you don’t have any concerns or questions for your student’s teacher at this time, it is not necessary to attend the Parent/Teacher Conference. Please remember that you can schedule a meeting with your teacher at any time during the year.
Due to the two late-night conferences teachers will be attending, there will be no school on Friday, October 21.

Staff Appreciation Committee:
Your East Staff Appreciation Committee has mobilized, and we have a great year planned to spoil our staff! We are dotting the i's and crossing the t's on each of the events planned and will let you know the details so that you may all participate.
The SAC committee only has $700 for the entire year for 80 staff members, so we count on donations. If you own a business interested in sponsoring a lunch or would like to help by making and/or donating food items, contact a SAC co-chair or PTO member or sign up when we push out SignUp Genius with opportunities.
- Our first opportunity is to help stock the teacher lounges. Click here to see opportunities each month: East Junior High Parents and Volunteers: EJH Staff Appreciation (signupgenius.com)
- The second opportunity will be a dinner for Parent/Teacher Conferences on 10/19 & 10/20. A Signup Genius with donation opportunities will be posted soon.
If you have a fun idea to show appreciation for the EJH staff, we are all ears! Let us know!
Thanks!
Your SAC Co-Chairs
