Lev Vygotsky
Lev Vygotsky was born November 5th, 1896 in Russia, he grew up with a wealthy lifestyle and was one of eight children. He graduated with a law degree at Moscow University, but it wouldn´t be until he was 28 until an interest in psychology came about. Vygotsky was married in 1924 to Rosa Smekhova and soon began his career, which was controversial to the typical beliefs during that time period, which meant his studies would not have an affect until after 1956.

Vygotsky had set a foundation for the idea of constructivism, which falls under social development theory, and asserts three major themes regarding social interaction, the more knowledgeable other, and the zone of proximal development. Vygotsky also created a concept he called the zone of proximal development which was often understood to refer to the way that the gaining of new knowledge depends on previous learning, and also the availability of instruction.

He believed that children learn for themselves, and that learning is resulted through social experiences, and also that language plays a big role in mental development.

his theories believe a child can learn different things both from experiences as well as help from others; a child could spend hours trying to figure out a jigsaw puzzle, but may not understand what he/she is doing until a parent helps them.
