Braswell and Denton HS Theatre Among Best at State Thespian Festival, 21 Advance to Nationals

Braswell and Denton HS Theatre students competed at the Texas State Thespian Festival, November 14-18 at the Gaylord Texan Conference Center in Grapevine. DISD thespians competed in multiple categories with over 7000 students from Texas. 12 BHS students and 9 DHS students qualified for the National Thespian Convention in June at the University of Nebraska. The DHS Tech Theatre team placed 1st in the state. The BHS Improve Troupe placed 16th in the state. Congratulations to these outstanding students and their directors. 286 DISD Music Students Selected for TMEA All-Region Bands, Choirs, and Orchestras

Throughout the first semester, Denton ISD band, choir, and orchestra students prepare for and participate in the TMEA All-Region Auditions. DISD students compete in TMEA Region 2, which includes Denton, Lake Dallas, Lewisville, and Northwest ISDs. Auditions are judged by a panel and students that place high enough earn positions in the All-Region Bands, Choirs, and Orchestras. All-Region students get to rehearse and perform with the most outstanding musicians from Region 2 in a weekend clinic and concert (listed below). A total of 286 Denton ISD students have been named "All-Region" in 2018-19. The highest ranking high school musicians also qualify to audition for All-State. The final round takes place January 12. Guyer Wind Ensemble Featured Performance at Western International Band Clinic in Seattle

Congratulations to the Guyer Wind Ensemble students and directors, Amy Woody, Dr. Ellis Hampton, and Oscar Ban for their outstanding performance at the 40th Annual Western International Band Clinic in Seattle on Nov. 17. They were invited to perform a concert for WIBC attendees and presented an excellent program to a full house. Special thanks to guest artist, Cody McClarty, Assistant Principal Trumpet of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. He was accompanied by the GHS Wind Ensemble on Vassily Brandt's Concertpiece No. 1 for Trumpet. Guyer was one of only two high school bands selected to perform at this international event.

Braswell Choirs Share Stage with UNT Concert Choir

On November 27, the Braswell HS Chorale and Advanced Women's Choir, directed by Ben Oehlschlaeger, were invited to perform in concert with the University of North Texas Concert Choir, directed by Dr. Jessica Napoles. It was a tremendous musical experience for the high school choir students to share the stage with UNT and perform in the Murchison Performing Arts Center. Many thanks to our friends at the UNT College of Music for this special invitation and opportunity for our students!

Student Fine Arts Events Across DISD and Community

Between Thanksgiving break and the end of the first semester, Fine Arts programs all over Denton ISD are busy hosting events and concerts throughout the community and on campuses. Nearly every day, DISD families and friends can find a performance or event to attend where our students' talents and hard work are displayed. Thanks to our hard working Fine Arts teachers and students for preparing these events. Many thanks to our community members for attending and showing a tremendous outpouring of support for the students and for the arts!
