Art Steps (Three locations)
In 1999, Hilary Key, a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, learned to effectively teach classical, fine art drawing and painting skills to children in the Los Angeles area using world-class curriculum and methodology developed by Ed and Sher Warren. She approached the Warrens about partnering to form a new studio, bringing these teaching techniques to Orange County, and Art Steps was born.
At Art Steps, we provide:
- A solid foundation in realistic, classical drawing and painting skills
- A cheerful, caring studio community where people feel at ease
- Step-by-step guidance and mentorship, inspiring students at every level to enjoy working toward their individual artistic goals
- Helpful resources, encouraging artists to thrive!
Each of our talented teachers, carefully hand-chosen by our Director for a kind, warm personality, strong classical artistic painting skills, and enthusiasm for working children, either has a fine art degree such as a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, or is currently working toward one. Every teacher participates in 40 hours of hands-on, project-based artwork training with our Director, plus another 20+ hours in the classroom with an experienced teacher, to ensure consistent excellence in instruction.
Locations: Costa Mesa, Laguna Hills and Yorba Linda

Homeschooling Advice
There are no educational emergencies
"Your child can’t read—and she’s 9.
Your child won’t handwrite, and when he does, it’s illegible.
You forgot to teach state history that year your oldest was in 4th grade because of the newborn.
You finally got the diagnosis: ADHD. She’s 16. What about college?
My friend Stephanie Hoffmann Elms loves to share a favorite saying of one of her friends: “There are no educational emergencies.” The first time I heard it, the phrase went off like an alarm in my heart. What if that were true?"
