Principal's Message

Dear Sabre families,

Another beautiful weekend, we hope everyone had a chance to enjoy it!

We are excited for our first full five day week, uninterrupted with drills or assemblies, as we develop an established routine and a welcomed return to normalcy.

Before we highlight the upcoming week, a couple of reflections and updates from the past week. We ran grade level assemblies where administration was able to further communicate with our Sabres about student expectations, talk about philosophy, and provide further avenues of support. The power of being in the same room, or gym, in this case and hearing a collective message was awesome. Also, we ran our first fire drill at the end of block 4 on Friday. As Assistant Principal Kyle Samaratunga, who oversees our Occupational Health, Safety and Emergency Preparedness at SAL said, and I quote, ‘Well done Sabres. We evacuated ~ 1400 people in an efficient and safe manner.’!

Congratulations to our junior girls and boys for a nice start to the season with their performance at the SCA tournament. Also, to our senior boys football team for their big win under the ‘Friday night lights’. To start the year, Sabre Pride and school spirit has been resonating in the building and community!

This week brings us further student opportunities with Clubs Day during lunch on Wednesday. There will be many information booths for students to learn about and gain understanding with the various clubs to further a passion and meet new people. Everything from Debate, languages and student exchanges, Model UN, Robotics, Esport, Games, GSA, Movement, Intramurals, plus much more will be promoted for our Sabres to join. As I mentioned to the students in each respective assembly this past week, if there is something that our students would like us to start, please do not hesitate to contact me and we will try our best to make it happen. A perfect example of grassroots leadership!

Under the umbrella of intentionality, this Wednesday is another opportunity for students to receive individualized and customized support. From the academia of Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, and English, along with CTS, fine arts, and phys ed, all of the staff will be available after school for assistance. There will be times where we run interdepartmental meetings, hence, our teachers will communicate those occasions to their classes where they may be unavailable.

With our school and division goal of Career Transitions and student preparedness for life after high school, we have Nait coming in this Wednesday to kick off our Informational Sessions from advanced education. Parents are welcome to attend!

Finally, we are also excited to be able to open our Wellness Center, Monday to Friday, from 3:30 - 4:45 p.m. to all of our students. Regardless if you play on a sports team, all students are welcome and encouraged. Mr. Reinich, who has a wealth of experience and knowledge will be on hand to help students achieve their fitness goals and how to train in a safe and efficient manner. As we know, there is a strong tie between physical, mental and emotional wellness.

That’s all for now folks! As always, please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or concerns.
