What to Do If Your Child is Sick or Not Felling Well
Students may return to school when: At least 24 hours have passed since resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications, and other symptoms have improved, AND they have a negative test for SARS-CoV-2, OR a healthcare provider has provided documentation that the symptoms are typical of their underlying chronic condition (e.g., allergies or asthma) OR a healthcare provider has confirmed an alternative named diagnosis (e.g., Streptococcal pharyngitis, Coxsackie virus), OR at least 10 days have passed since symptom onset.

Update | Wearing Masks Outdoors on Campus
August 20, 2021
Union School District has consistently and will continue to follow the CA Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Santa Clara County Public Health Department requirements and guidance. Health officials continue to share that vaccination and mask wearing are the most important defenses against the spread and transmission of COVID-19 and the Delta variant.
Currently, the CDPH requires all students and staff members to wear face masks indoors and does not require face masks in outdoor settings. While we know that COVID-19 and the Delta variant remain present in our community, USD will be taking additional precautions and adding a layer of protection in requiring face masks outdoors starting Monday, August 23rd.
While earlier this week our COVID-19 parent/guardian webinar indicated that masks are optional outdoors, the added precautionary measure is necessary at this time and will require students and staff to wear a mask both indoors and outdoors, except when eating or drinking during recess/lunch or during vigorous outdoor exercise in PE. As always, brief outdoor “face mask breaks” will still be allowed should a student need it.
In being on campus, the majority of our students are wearing masks as they play during recess, so this added precautionary measure should be second nature to most of our students already. Thank you for your continued support and collaboration in adherence to health and safety measures designed to protect our schools and our community.

Important Reminders Regarding School Safety
Now that we have returned to school, we need to return to pre-campus closure campus safety measures. Again, this is for the safety of everyone!
Adults and Students: Please do not bike, scoot, or skateboard through the parking lot or on busy sidewalks during dismissal and drop-off. When walking, please stay on the sidewalks. Also, please be mindful of cyclists! Bicycles have the right to use the whole lane, and little ones who are cycling are permitted to ride on the sidewalk, so please watch for them when pulling into school.
Dogs are not allowed on campus, including the parking area, grass, and walkways leading to the school. The school campus begins where the public sidewalk ends. If walking a dog while dropping off or picking up, you must remain on the public sidewalk.
Do not temporarily park or stop in the red zone/fire zone by the Kinder/PreK playground.
I know this is an attractive spot for our PreK - 2nd-grade families, but this area must stay clear to others, as well as preventing traffic backing up onto the street. If you are trying to access this area of the school, drive all the way down the white pick-up/drop-off zone that runs along the front of the school. Drop off your student on the passenger side, and an adult supervisor will escort your student.
You may also park near the school and walk from that point.
Please do not park in the parking lot. Oster is fully staffed and gets visitors. All parking spots are needed.

COVID Resources and Protocols
USD COVID Dashboard
During the school year, USD will publish the count of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases on a weekly basis. Data counts will be updated on Tuesdays for the previous week.
To ensure privacy, names or identifying information of positive cases will not be disclosed.
Reminders from Santa Clara County Public Health
The county has various testing sites for people with symptoms, find one at: www.sccfreetest.org
Reminder: Masks are required in indoor settings, regardless of vaccination status.
Travel Guidance When Going on Vacation
Once arriving in the US, all individuals must follow the guidance (testing and quarantine) set forth per the CDC.
The key thing is no child under 12 is vaccinated, so rules are more restrictive. Schools will require a negative test result PRIOR to coming to school.
For more information, please visit the CDC website:

Sodexo's So Happy App
Now, more than ever, we want to understand what’s in our meals – the ingredients, and especially the nutritional and allergen information. So Happy provides a level of transparency previously unknown to the industry, with clear product descriptions and graphical representations for every nutritional category.
Rely on So Happy to tell you what's on the menu in your school's cafeteria, and utilize the allergen alert features to highlight recipes of concern. Have a question? Use the Talk to Us portal to quickly and easily contact a member of the food service team.
Don't see your school site on the app? Please reach out your district's Sodexo General Manager to inquire.
