Reducing Energy Consumption in the House
- Set your dishwasher on economy mode, uses less water and electricity
- Keep your freezer full, uses less energy when full
- Avoid over-drying your clothes, it wastes energy and causes static and wrinkling
- Turn dishwasher off after the wash cycle, let them air dry
- Turn off kitchen and bathroom fans immediately after use.
- Vent your dryer to the outside, to reduce the work load on your air conditioner
- During the summer, Grill out more ofter. Puts less work on your air conditioner
- Wash full loads of clothes when possible. When smaller loads are necessary use less water
- Choose energy efficient appliances
- Separate wash loads into light and heavy fabrics and use the lowest drying time
- Hang dress clothing to air dry
- Always wash with cold water
- Shorten your shower time
- Turn off your water heater, if you plan on leaving the house for a few days
- Check your hot water pipes for dripping leaks
- Make sure you are washing a full load, if using hot water to do laundry
