Homecoming Week at East
Students who are involved in sports or activities at East who are planning to participate in the Homecoming parade on Friday must have their coach or club sponsor email me (sharon.stanley@d303.org) by Wednesday indicating that they will be participating in the parade. This way, teachers will be able to communicate with students about what they will miss beforehand.
Student Parent Teacher Organization
Our first meeting will be Tuesday, September 21st at 7:00 pm via Zoom. All interested students and parents are welcome to attend. To join the meeting, click this link: Compass SPTO Meeting.
Navigation, Extended Study Option for Students
It is part of our mission at Compass Academy to provide personalized learning for students, meaning not only that they have a choice and voice in how they demonstrate learning, but also that they are able to work at a pace that best accommodates their learning needs. We want students to be challenged, but also supported, as they learn. Extended Study allows students to do just that.
Block D STEM Courses - Coming soon!
Extracurricular Clubs & Activities
To that end, we are in the process of planning for multiple student clubs to begin meeting next month. Special events, such as dances, competitions, and a talent show, were also suggested in survey responses. Students on Compass Council and those who join the SPTO will be instrumental in planning for this year's student events.
Fall PSAT Testing
The Fall PSAT date is October 13th. 9th grade students will be taking College Board's PSAT 8/9. This will be an online exam and students will need their Chromebooks.
10th and 11th grade students will be taking College Board's PSAT/NMSQT exam in the traditional paper and pencil format.
All Compass Academy 9th-11th grade students will take the PSAT at their home high school. The test is on a Wednesday, so students who do not typically attend classes at their home high school will have the option to take district transportation to and from East or North that day.
More information about this will be shared as we get closer to the testing day.
Work-Based Learning & Community Partners
Here are two ways you can get involved now:
- We will be starting our Speaker Series next month. This will entail volunteers from various career fields taking 45 minutes of their time on a Wednesday to participate in a Zoom Q & A session with interested Compass Academy students. We want as many career fields represented as possible! If you are interested in being one of our speakers, please complete this Google form and Jackie Nilles, our Work-Based Learning Specialist, will be in touch with you soon to discuss next steps.
- If your place of employment is interested in offering Compass Academy students the opportunity to take a workplace tour or engage in job shadowing, please complete this Google form and either Jackie or I will follow up with you within the next two weeks to discuss options and next steps.
