1. The Bring It On! Spirit
The "bring it on" spirit really refers to an attitude that translate itself into a lifestyle pattern. What we get going tends to get going, so why not get the right thing going? What energetic thoughts are being swept into our mind today?
Patterns in life can be broken down to our daily choices. How we think now will manifest itself into how we live tomorrow. We don't know what a day may bring, but we can always know what we can bring to the day. Dictate how your day will flow vs. your day dictating how your mood will flow. (Challenged yet?) You can guide your day vs. your day's circumstances guiding you.
What can we do to bring on the "bring it on" spirit? Here are a few suggestions:
- Obtain your own personal mantra, repeat and repeat until it becomes who you are.
- Set a specific measurable health & fitness goal every week. Stay SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound).
- Make a few small goals each week & accomplish them so you feel quick, short successes. Consistent small rewards can change your world in a few short weeks. Walter Elliot stated, "Perseverance is not a long race, it is many short races one after the other."
- Practice breathing techniques daily. As needed, breath in faith and exhale the worry.
- Each morning before your feet hit the floor, or you check social media, center yourself. Before the world tries to distract you with its surroundings, solidify your thoughts and focus on starting off strong. Reflect on how you want your day to be instead of being wooed by the days events.
- Understand how to not just manage, but overturn stressful behaviors in your life. Neel Burton, M.D., states, "People with positive thinking styles and social skills are in a better position to diffuse stressful situations." See full article on How to Reduce Stress: Simple advice for better living below.
- Identifying what is important and having the courage to stick to that.
- Accept a new challenge. What's in your heart to do? What have you been putting off that you have wanted to do? E. Roosevelt stated, "Those things you fear, you must do."
- Update your passion. Check your temperature. Are you hot right now? Are you engaged? Is your passion level where it needs to be? If not, re-engage. Stimulate new creativity, dream a new dream, venture out, specialize in what you specialize in, climb higher, go deeper, get wiser, compete again, bring your best!
- Never settle!
- Experience hardships like a champ! Embrace the rough waters, they are fine-tuning your life skills.
2. Group Class of the Week: Restorative Yoga
Whether you are a beginner, or experiencing a minor physical limitation, or just wanting a mild yoga practice, this class is for you. It is designed to promote flexibility, balance, mind-body connection and stress relief. It will consist of gentle stretches, restorative yoga poses that are more "passive" then active, subtle joint rotations, slow dynamic movements to open the "connective tissue"within the body, and exercises to deepen the breathe.

5. Exercise Tip: Rotator Cuff Exercise & Video Demo
This shoulder exercise is a great warm up before you work shoulders or chest, or any of your upper body. It strengthens the muscles around the rotator cuff. It's a good idea to really get your shoulders warm before you lift heavy.
Use lightweight and keep good form. Start with your arms 90°, your elbows tucked in by your sides and move the dumbbells together left and right. Your arms never leave the L position. Next, lift your arms for a side raise and make them parallel with the floor. Then simply take the dumbbells up and down.
Do at least two or three of the sets prior to doing an upper body strength training. Your shoulders will thank you for it.
6. Nutrition Tip from Lori, RD: Breakfast News
Breakfast truly sets the stage for the entire day. What you eat will impact your mood, energy level, digestion and appetite for the remainder of the day.
Make sure you start your day out right with a nutritious breakfast that includes blood sugar balancing and metabolism boosting protein, energizing fiber-rich complex carbohydrates and good fat to keep your belly full.
