Pinto Press
A Message from Your Principal
What a wonderful first few days of school we had! I haven't seen such big smiles on teachers' faces since last March, although I had to see them on-line. Nothing fills their hearts or mine more than getting to connect with students. Our Pintos were on-line, excited, and ready to learn. I've heard from many of you about how well on-line learning is going. We are so glad to have the year started!
If you were one of few who had some technology issues, thank you for your patience and perseverance as we worked through them.
We have some great news! Headphones for our K-4 students have arrived! You can stop by the school anytime between 8:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to pick them up. Simply call the school when you arrive, and we'll bring them out to you.
Meal applications are due soon. See below for information on how to apply and due dates.
Moving forward, classroom teachers will NOT be able to assist you with technology related questions while instructing. They have office hours built into their schedule to assist with parent questions or students needing assistance. The 'chat box' feature during the TEAMS meeting is available for students to use for instructional purposes only. Classroom teachers will not be able to pause and answer parent questions during instruction. Instead please call the office, as we are happy to help you in anyway we can. You can also reach out during your child's teacher's scheduled office hours to get in contact with them. We appreciate your patience and understanding!
I've added lots of information, links, and reminders below. I hope you find it helpful. Thank you again for being our patient partners! We are grateful for you all.
Take care,
Mrs. Schovanec
Headphones Pick Up
Come pick up your child's headphones anytime between 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. any school day.
Papers to drop off at school?
A mailbox will be placed outside the main door each day. You can place papers you need to return to school in that mailbox. Then call the school and let us know you've dropped them off. We'll come and get them. The mailbox will be brought inside each night. Please remember that masks are expected to be worn by all on OPS property.
Meal Applications
Meal applications must be processed by September 22. You can find meal applications at https://district.ops.org. Paper copies were sent home in the Back to School folders. You can drop the paper applications off at school. Please submit those in time for processing before the September 22 deadline.
Attendance:
Attendance is being taken each day. If your child is having difficulty connecting to the class meeting in the morning and you receive a robo call regarding attendance, please note that we understand that the absence may be related to technical difficulties. If an absent is directly related to a technical issue, you may still receive the call, however, that will not go against your child's attendance. You can always call the main office at 531-299-1920.
Connectivity
If you experience connectivity challenges, T-Mobile is the internet provider contracted by Omaha Public Schools. Our staff is in regular contact with them. If families are experiencing cellular data issues, the T-Mobile contact number is 1-844-341-4834. You may also connect to your home internet if that is an option in your home.
A Quick Fix to try first:
- Go into settings and click on cellular data, then switch it off and then back on
Apple Support
Apple, our iPad provider, has two support options for families:
- 24/7 phone support is available at 1-800-800-2775, option 3
- Apple Support Website: https://support.apple.com/ipad
Family Support Centers
For health and safety reasons, we encourage families to explore solutions by phone, email or Teams. Understanding that some solutions may require in-person assistance, starting today, Aug. 18 we will open three Family Support Centers. This will be a one-stop shop to help families start the school year successfully. Families will be able to work with nutrition services, technology support staff, counselors and other staff to answer any questions they may have.
The following services will be available for families at each location:
- Student Support Liaisons
- Bilingual Liaisons
- Counselors
- Social Workers
- Nutrition Services – to assist with meal applications and Meals2Go information
- Technology Support
- Student and Community Services
There will be signage at each location to help direct families. We will have three locations centrally located throughout Omaha. The locations are:
- Skinner Magnet Center
- Beveridge Magnet School
- Bryan Middle School
The Family Support Centers will be open Aug. 18-21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. At the end of the week, we will determine if future dates will be needed.
Rejoining TEAMS
If your child is somehow kicked out of or dropped off from TEAMs during a session, they can simply go back to their calendar and click the "join" button again. Please do not have them "call" on TEAMs. That takes longer for the teacher to add them back into the session.
Stuck app
You can delete and reinstall the app. Simple hold down the app icon until a prompt appears. Click "cancel download" or "uninstall app". Open the Mosyle Manager App (see image below).
Choose install the app.
iPad Batteries
Remember to keep your child's iPad charged. They need to be charged to at least 20% to receive any updates the district may send out.
