Hawk Talk
Peninsula High School - April 9th, 2021
A Message from Dr. Potts
Dear Seahawk Families,
Spring is fully upon us and we are looking forward to the final quarter of school. After our spring break, time will speed up and graduation will be here before we know it.
As we begin the final portion of the school year, we have much to do. Student registration begins shortly after the break as do our third-season sports. We want to encourage all students to participate in a sport, and if you have questions about how to get involved, contact the athletics office and they will assist.
Included in this month’s Hawk Talk are a few reminders about safely attending school. We need to students to bring and wear lanyards and to follow the seating requirements for lunches. We hope to open outdoor seating after spring break. All students need to be screened in the morning, and they need to complete the attestation form to enter.
Attendance during the asynchronous days is required and we ask that parents encourage their students to participate and do the work assigned. Also, there is a process, outlined in this month’s newsletter, that students should follow to be “counted” for attending classes. Following the process and being counted reduces the chances that there will be a phone call that indicates that a student wasn’t present.
Our seniors are preparing for graduation and more information will be coming out in late April regarding more details on senior celebrations. We will also assist parents and students navigate the process of preparing for graduation day. These certainly are exciting times and there is a lot to look forward to this spring.
Go Seahawks!
Sincerely,
Joe Potts, Ph.D.
Principal
Hybrid Reminders
- Students NEED to bring their lanyards daily. Teachers will be checking that students are wearing their lanyards, and have received their attestation clearance card. We have provided each student with a free lanyard, if your student has lost theirs, they will need to provide their own.
- Our goal is to open outdoor lunch seating after spring break. This is dependent on students consistently wearing their lanyards with their screening card.
- Send your student to school with a completed attestation form. This helps speed up the screening process. PLEASE thoughtfully read the questions on the form each morning. Assessing health prior to arriving in the building is an essential step in keeping students and staff healthy.
- If a student arrives after 7:30 am, they need to enter through the office entrance. This is the only entrance staffed for health screening.
Important Attendance Update
Starting on Monday, April 19th, students working asynchronously in either the Hybrid or Remote instruction model will show attendance daily in one universal procedure used across the district for our high school students. To be marked present, students will log into their portal and take the SEL survey in the upper right hand corner (emoji with "How are you feeling today?").
Students who take the survey will be counted as "present" for the school day, while those who do not participate will be marked absent.
It is recommended that the survey be completed before 2pm to avoid a robo-call home.
If your child needs to be excused from school, please call the attendance office at (253) 530-4428.
