Building a School Community
Imagine a School with No Rules
Entry Event
Students will close their eyes and imagine a day at a school with no rules. Teachers will narrate the students dream by saying things like " imagine the start of a school day, no safety patrol, no teachers helping, you come in any way that you want, you can go wherever you want and whenever you want, come in as late as you'd like.....the morning bell rings and the teacher starts their day, who's in the classroom, who's at their desk, some are there and some are not..." Teachers will ask students "How will this affect you and others around you?"
Students open their eyes and create t-charts with the class of a school with rules vs. a school with no rules.
Next, students will draw a picture of one location in the building lacking rules and with rules in place.

Narrowing It Down/Final Product
From the t-charts, the class will rank the top 4-6 locations in the building. Teachers will meet and choose the top 4. All 4th graders will meet in the AV room to discuss the proper behavior for good leaders. Then students can be numbered off to a teacher (ex. all 4's to Mrs. Geis, all 3's to Mr. Brown....). Mrs. Geis might be creating a story-board with the 4's for the cafeteria procedures. Students will verbalize then model appropriate procedures. After students create the storyboard, they will make a PSA for their procedure as the final product.
