College, Career & Military Readiness Happenings
Week 2 of CTE Hybrid Instruction is in the Books!
Students that are participating in hybrid instruction are engaging in fun, interactive activities.
Cosmetology students applied their learning of color combinations to creating tye-dye T-shirts.
Culinary Arts students elevated the take-home supplies obtained through our Food Service department and created tantalizing dishes, including sausage mac-n-cheese, apple crunch, waffles, and more. They also practiced decorating cookies to celebrate fall.
Other students were engaged in demonstrations of specialized and new equipment, learning new programs, and even a look at the natural resources around campus.
More from the CTE Coordinator, Mrs. Coggins ...
10 students have already earned an industry-based certification (IBC)! These Automotive Technology II and Practicum of Transportation students obtained a passing score on the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) General-1 certification assessment.
All Elementary Principals were sent a brief survey to assist with planning events for CTE/CCMR exploration for the 2020-21 school year. We're looking forward to some exciting and fun learning experiences.
Career & Technical Student Organization (CTSO) membership drives are underway. At this time, all events such as Fall Leadership Conference and District Conference, are to be engaged virtually. This is a new mode of participation and students are encouraged to join to navigate new waters.
Curriculum & Instructional Updates from Mrs. Rich
The CTE department has been able to purchase iCEV for CTE teachers grades 7-12, including student accounts. Keep an eye out for the iCEV logo on ClassLink, it will be available for single sign-on soon.
CTE Professional Development Opportunities
Do you have a CTE teacher that has zero to one year of experience teaching in CTE? The Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT) is providing training for CTE teachers that are new to the profession as long as they have not taught a CTE course in any Texas school for more than one year. The CTE department will pay for the new CTE teachers to attend this academy. Please have any first or second year CTE teachers complete the “New CTE Teacher Academy Signup 20-21” form located here. If you would like more information on the program, please click here.
CCMR Updates from Mrs. Wilkerson
Dallas County Promise programming aims to:
Reduce students’ financial barriers to entering and completing college by supporting Promise Partner colleges to implement a last-dollar tuition scholarship.
Help students navigate college enrollment, completion, and career entry by communicating with students via email and text, hosting workshops, and providing personalized support.
Change systems to better serve students through: aligning Dallas County’s college access policy/process goals, amplifying student and parent voice, and supporting campuses to make data-driven decisions by providing regular college access reports, interactive FAFSA completion tools, and customized case management solutions.
