From the Principal
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Kodiak HoliDAYS Raffle! We raised over $6,000 for the students and staff at VMS!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! We hope you all have an enjoyable week. The VMS office will be closed during the week of Thanksgiving. VMS staff will also be spending time with family as well and will not be responding to e-mails until we return on Monday, November 30th.
There has been an update to our district dress code in regards to face shields. "Throughout the duration of the current pandemic, students will be required to wear a cloth face covering (mask) that fully covers the nose and mouth and fits snug against the sides of the face." Thank you for ensuring your student has an appropriate facial covering every day.
Per the district student/parent handbook, all technology interactions should be school appropriate. This includes the picture students display on their Microsoft Teams account. The photo should be a school appropriate photo of themselves or no picture at all. Thank you for helping us remind students of this expectation.
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

The Big 6
To keep all students and staff healthy during this time, we are focusing on the Big 6 health and safety protocols:
- Sanitation (both hands and high touch surfaces)
- Facial Coverings (Cloth Face Covering)
- Physical Distancing (6 feet or greater)
- 15 minutes (not within 6 feet for longer than 15 minutes cumulatively)
- Monitoring for Symptoms ((fever 100.4 (without taking fever reducing medication), loss of smell or taste, chills, new/unusual headache, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea/loss of appetite, cough, muscle aches, sore throat, shortness of breath, fatigue, congestion/runny nose)
- Covering coughs and sneezes (In a tissue, or in your elbow)
Updated Dress Code - Face Masks
COVID 19 requirements: Throughout the duration of the current pandemic, students will be required to wear a cloth face covering (mask) that fully covers the nose and mouth and fits snug against the sides of the face. Students will be allowed mask breaks when determined necessary by the teacher and appropriate social distancing can be maintained. Mask breaks will not happen in the classroom. Face shields are not permitted for use as a matter of preference and will only be used to accommodate medical and/or communication conditions. Face shields should never become an absolute substitution for cloth face coverings. Medical accommodations will be made for students with proper documentation from a medical provider. The documentation will be routed to the school nurse who will then document the accommodation in PowerSchool. Prior arrangements, based on a team decision, for students enrolled in special populations will be honored. The decision by the building administrator(s) about an acceptable mask is final. Violations of these requirements will lead to disciplinary action. (Refer to the WASD Pandemic Operations Plan for additional information)

Kodiak Coaches' Den
Central District Health moved West Ada School District into category red. Transitioning into red operations means there are adjustments to competition, as outlined in our pandemic game management plans.
While middle school athletics will continue, in accordance with our game management plan, spectators may not attend events on West Ada School District property beginning October 19.
Covid-19 reminders: Please do not send your child to practices and competitions if he/she is not feeling well. Each athlete is encouraged to have their own water bottle and hand sanitizer.
