We Are St. Ann School

2/16/2016 Faculty/Staff News By: Bonnie Hall, Principal

Our School hall will be CLOSED the week of February 22-27

The school hall will be closed the entire week of February 22nd. Students will eat lunch upstairs. Mrs. Hess's gym classes will meet in the Enrichment Center. Due to workers in the building along with special equipment on site, I ask that all students and staff stay away from this area.

Teachers may accompany students to the Hall's entranceway to pick up hot lunch orders; remember students should never be sent unaccompanied in order to pick up their lunches. Chez Paul's kitchen will still be operational to heat the lunches. The school hall's pipes will be insulated that week by an outside contractor. Insulating the pipes will keep the boiler's heated steam warm as it travels upstairs. Our junior high wing should notice a difference in warmth of rooms; in addition, this an energy efficient solution. Special thanks to Mr. Chuck Murach for coordinating the project, and our Fr. Bill for his continued support of our school.

Marshall's Memo

http://www.marshallmemo.com (Now tablet and Smart phone ready!)

The Marshall Memo, published since 2003, is designed to keep principals, teachers, superintendents, and others very well-informed on current research and best practices in the field. Kim Marshall, drawing on his experience as a teacher, principal, central office administrator, consultant, and writer, lightens the load of busy educators by serving as their "designated reader."

This week's articles:

- Why texting is the ideal medium for teen crisis counseling
- Three key factors that nurture student resilience
- More on emphasizing altruism in the college admissions process
- Finding the right balance of talk, student voice, and technology
- Squelching shame in reading classes
- Effective use of exit tickets
- Digital tools to support effective literacy teaching

Letter of Intent Forms

I placed "Letters of Intent" in your boxes last week. You may note a difference in format, as this is the first time the Archdiocese of Chicago has provided us with a format in which to follow and deadline to adhere to.

These letter will assist us in budgeting for the new school year. Please make your selection and return the form by March 25th to me. (Thank you to those of you that already submitted your forms.) Contracts will be offered in the Spring.

I've been asked...

I've been asked by the associate superintendent of Catholic Schools, Dr. Kearney, to serve on a school improvement review team at St. Bede's on March 8th.

As you recall, this is part of the AdvancED school accreditation process that every school in the Archdiocese is undergoing. I look forward to being "on the other side" as a member of the review team. This will assist me in preparing us for our own evaluation scheduled for Spring, 2017 when a review team will visit our school.

It's an honor to be asked as well as an opportunity to be a part of the greater good...to improve all of our Catholic schools and recognize greatness.

Ball in the Hall Update

We are hard at work on our 2nd Annual Ball in the Hall, and we need your help! We are seeking donations of services of all kinds. Are you a plumber, an electrician, a carpenter, a painter, a landscaper? Do you cut hair, prepare taxes, design websites, repair computers? Are you a tutor, a piano teacher, a dog walker, a babysitter? Whatever you do, people will love to win some of your time! We can even provide you with documentation so you can claim it as a charitable donation on your taxes. Please call the Parish Office at 708-895-6700 to donate or for more information. School families will receive a volunteer hour for donating!
