ATHLETICS
Feature Student Athletes: 1st Recipients of the Mike Serna Memorial Scholarship
Mike Serna was a Class of 1985 graduate. Mike was an exceptional athlete during his years at John Glenn. Mike played center field on the Varsity Baseball team, in which he helped lead John Glenn to 2 CIF Championships in 1984 & 1985. He was also a starting Running Back on the Varsity Football team, helping take his team to the CIF playoffs in 1984. He loved sports, had a great amount of school pride and loved watching John Glenn teams win! Mike was truly proud to be a John Glenn Eagle!
Friends and family have started a Memorial Scholarship Fund in Mike Serna’s honor which is to be awarded to two deserving John Glenn High School Student Athletes for years to come to keep his name and the love of the game alive! Mike would have been humbled and honored to be a part of such an amazing cause!
Mike’s wife, Desiree, Daughter, Annyssa, and Son Mikey were on the field before our Homecoming Game to award seniors, Geovana Ramos and Jimmy Torres, the 1st Mike Serna Memorial Scholarship. Geovana is a 2 sport athlete, competing in Varsity Volleyball & Soccer. She currently holds a cumulative 4.2 grade point average and is ranked #10 in the graduating class of 2022. Jimmy is also a 2 sport athlete, competing in Varsity Football & Soccer. Jimmy currently has a cumulative 4.2 grade point average and is ranked #7 in his graduating class.
Congratulations to Geovana and Jimmy for being selected to receive such an honorable award.
Rest in Peace Mike. You will never be forgotten. Once an Eagle, Always and Eagle.
