Wernli Counseling Department Newsletter-September 2022

A message from your counselors

Welcome Back Wildcats! We hope you all had a fun and restful summer break. We are so excited to welcome students back on campus and see them so eager to learn. This year we are fortunate to have two school counselors on campus. Ms. Garza will be supporting kindergarten, second grade, fourth grade and ALE students and Mrs. Barrett will support pre-k, first grade, third grade and fifth grade students. We look forward to fostering a relationship with our students and families.

Parent/Guardian School Counseling Needs Assessment

Please help us ensure we provide the appropriate focus for your child on our campus this year.
Professional School Counselors provide skill goal-based classroom guidance lessons and theory-based small group counseling sessions to help students gain the skills necessary to improve aspects of their social and emotional well-being, and to improve the skills necessary to take maximum advantage of education and career preparation opportunities. Your input regarding our specific focus is invaluable! Thank you!

What's Happening in Guidance?

Starting September 12, 2022 we will be entering classrooms to begin guidance lessons. Our comprehensive school counseling program ensures equitable access for all students. Guidance curriculum proves lessons to help facilitate growth development and transferrable skills in the areas of educational, career, personal and social development. Our guidance lessons fall into the four content areas which are intrapersonal effectiveness, interpersonal effectiveness, post-secondary planning and readiness and personal health and safety. This is to help students become advanced critical thinkers, efficient problem solvers and demonstrate appropriate behavior and disposition.

Our first guidance lessons will be an introduction to the role of the school counselor. Lessons following will be based on the results from our parent and staff needs assessment. We appreciate your support in helping us improve our program.
