Emily Justice is the Madras Eagles Student Athlete of the Month
September Student Athlete of the Month Emily Justice is a member of the Madras Middle School Lady Eagles’ Volleyball team, and has been playing at Madras for two years. She is passionate about the game, and is happy her twin sister, Anna, is also a Lady Eagle this year. Her favorite thing about being on the volleyball team is the camaraderie. She enjoys meeting new new friends and working together as a team. “It takes a lot of patience and encouragement, because everyone is on different levels, but whether we’ve played club or not, we are always patient and we learn from each other. Coach Michelle Clarke says, “ Emily Justice is a leader on and off the court. She has stepped up as a leader both in practices and during the games. Her volleyball skills are phenomenal, and she is a positive force on the court..” Her teachers have high praise for her off the court as well. “In class Emily shines with her never-give-up attitude and work ethic,” says Mrs. Foster. “She is a kind and compassionate young lady who is well like by her peers and students.” Emily followed Olympic volleyball closely this summer and hopes to play for Northgate High School next year. After high school, she would like to pursue a college degree in Veterinarian Science. In her spare time she enjoys her dogs Bentley and Sadie and spending time with friends.

What is the Talent Search?
The largest program of its kind, participants in the Duke TIP 7th Grade Talent Search identify academic strengths, develop abilities and interests, and celebrate their achievements at a crucial time when they are forming their identities and looking ahead to the future. TIP assists families in determining how advanced their students’ academic abilities are and what level of educational challenge is appropriate.
As part of the talent search enrollment, Duke TIP registers eligible seventh graders to take either the ACT (no Writing) or SAT (no Essay) as an above-level test. This allows students to have greater insight into their abilities and it gives them the opportunity to preview a college entrance exam.
Whether you are new to TIP or participated in our 4th–6th Grade Talent Search, we hope you’ll take a moment to learn about this talent search, its valuable benefits and resources designed specifically for academically talented youth, and its qualifications for enrollment.
Do I Qualify?
- You must be in the seventh grade (or a current eighth grader who skipped seventh grade).
- You must meet the test score requirements.
- Scores from either of the two most recent test administrations are accepted. For most seventh grade students this represents scores from either the sixth grade or the fifth grade. Students need to qualify in only one of the accepted composite or subtest areas.
Fifth grade Georgia Milestones
- ELA greater or equal to 599
- Math greater or equal to 602
- Science greater or equal to 607
- Social Studies greater or equal to 567
Sixth grade Georgia Milestones
- ELA greater or equal to 606
- Math greater or equal to 602
- Science greater or equal to 615
- Social Studies greater or equal to 590

PTSO: Join the Team!
Alison Kelleher, PTSO President
Welcome to Madras! The purpose of our PTSO is to help improve our school by combining the efforts of parents, students, and teachers. We invite you to join PTSO to help make our school a better place to work and learn! Our fundraising efforts have benefited a variety of projects in the past including school building improvements, teacher instructional requests, equipment for the fine arts department, instructional technology purchases, and athletic programs. We ask that each family join PTSO with a $10.00 contribution. (Checks should be made payable to Madras PTSO.) We also need your volunteer time! If you are interested in assisting, please print the form below linked below, and indicate in the appropriate section. Return the form to the MMS front office or to your child's homeroom teacher. You will be contacted as the events take place. We also need members who are interested in chairing a committee during the 2016-2017 school year. If you are interested, please contact PTSO officer Alison Kelleher by email at alisonkelleher@me.com.
Thanks in advance for your support!
Box Tops for Education
My name is Stacy Hankinson and I’m thrilled to be our school’s Box Tops for Education™ Coordinator.
Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10¢ for our school! Just look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products. All you have to do is clip them and send them to school.
Last school year, we earned $1,229 for our school from Box Tops and used the money for our teachers. This school year, our goal is to earn $2500. For more information on Box Tops, including a list of participating products, go to BTFE.com. Be sure to sign up as a member (it’s free!) so you can check out our school’s earnings details and get access to coupons and bonus offers.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m here to help make our school’s Box Tops for Education™ program a huge success this year.
Thanks for your help!
