Principal's Message

Dear Families,

It was wonderful to be able to see everyone last Thursday in our Back to School Open House for K-4. Tomorrow night, we look forward to inviting our families of students in grades 5 -8.

The schedule is detailed below. Similar to our elementary level event, our 5-8 Back to School Open House, will also start with a welcome from administration, followed by introductions from our related arts teachers (Art, Engineering, Health, Music, PE.) From that point, families will have the chance to connect with their children's teachers. As with last week's event, all materials shared with families will be made available digitally in the coming days.

Over the years, we've evolved this process to provide families the scheduling flexibility to connect with as many teachers as possible across the multiple grade levels that may be currently working with your children while also respecting that this may not be the first time you've been through this process. As such, the fifth and sixth grade teams will be offering a combination of grade level presentations and "meet the teacher / see the classroom" options while the seventh and eighth grade teams will have a double block to connect with the teachers in the classrooms in an Open House format.

Dr. Levine has compiled a list of extra curricular activities that we are offering this year. He will have information available for you tomorrow night and will be sharing the same information with students on Friday. I will send an updated link to families when our 2021 extracurricular list is complete and posted to our website.

I look forward to connecting with you tomorrow and welcoming you back into the Florence Sawyer School.

Yours in partnership,

Joel Bates,

Reporting an Absence at FSS

To report an absence, tardy, or change of dismissal. Please follow the FSSAttendance protocols below. We appreciate receiving FSSAttendance emails as early as possible the morning of the absence, tardy, or change in dismissal plan and no later than 1:30 p.m.

FSSAttendance protocol:

Please email the fssattendance@nrsd.net email address and cc: your child(ren)’s homeroom teacher with all dismissals, absences, tardies, or changes to pickup. Because this email address goes to both secretaries and both nurses, it ensures that, even when the classroom teacher is absent, we get the information to get your student where he/she needs to be. If you have more than one student, please send one email per family.

All FSSattendance emails must copy the homeroom teacher and include the following information:

1) Student’s First and LAST name,

2) Grade and Home Room Teacher,

3) Dismissal instructions or reason for absence/tardy.

4) Bus # if a change from regular bus routine due to child care purposes pertains. Please copy donnadeebus@gmail.com and include the change in stop or person meeting your child at the drop off location. Once received, the school will provide the student a bus pass. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, at this time, we will be following the DESE Protocols for Transportation. No changes to buses are allowed.
