Week Of February 8th
Highlights from last week....
In Phonics, we focused on spelling words by tapping them out.
We also practiced writing our first and last name on our work. Please reinforce this at home as well.
In Reader's Workshop, we focused on looking at the picture, the first letter and then looking through the word and sound out the letters that we know. This is where the majority of the class is with regards to their reading. Have them show you some of their strategies at home. They are really doing great! Please keep reading those books that we have been sending home weekly with your child.
In Math, we continued to compare using words more, less, fewer, same as and equal. We counted and used numbers to find out which is more or less.
In Science, we learned about groundhogs and shadows.
A peek at our learning this week....
This week we will be focusing on writing sentences and using our "tapping" skills to write words in the sentences. The children are doing a great job with their writing. We have all their writing in journals that will be sent home later on in the year, however, we will be copying some of their work so that you can see the progress that they are making.
We will continue to practice writing our first and last name on our work. Please reinforce this at home as well.
In Reader's Workshop, we will be focusing looking through the word and sound out the letters that we know. We will be using "Flippy Dolphin", which is when you come to a tricky word, you can flip the vowel sound. Have them show you some of their strategies at home. They are really doing great! Please keep reading those books that I have been sending home weekly with your child. Also, please practice the sight words. The more sight words they know, the better readers they will become!
In Math, we will be starting our next module. We will be working on breaking numbers apart and putting them together using number bonds.
VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY- FRIDAY, February 12th
We will also be having our Valentine's Day party on Friday, February 12th. If your child chooses to participate, please have them ONLY sign their name to their valentines. We each have 21 students in our class. This makes the distribution process a whole lot easier if we do not have to sort through the valentines looking for names. If funds are tight and you cannot afford to purchase valentines, we discussed that homemade valentines are just as great as store bought. Let me know and I can send home some construction paper for you. If you would like to send in a yummy treat for the party, please let me know by sending in a note in your child's red folder. Thank you in advance for you help!

Many parents are asking what the class needs for supplies. We could use some Clorox Wipes and paper towels. Thank you in advance.
