SAS Update
October 30, 2020
We truly miss having our annual SAS Halloween events--Trunk or Treat and the Pancake Breakfast--but in the interest of keeping everyone as safe as possible, we decided it was best to take this year off. As an alternative, we are participating in the Trick or Treat event at Fox Pointe on Saturday, where we will join other local businesses and hand out candy from 2-4 p.m. Look for the St. Ann School table and bring your friends by!
DST Ends
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1,

Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour before bed time on Saturday night as Daylight Savings Time ends today.
All Saints Masses
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1,
8:30 & 10:30 a.m.
All Saints Day is a Holy Day of Obligation that falls on a Sunday this year! Did you know that we can now admit walk-ins to Masses? If you haven't pre-registered, you will simply need to give an usher your contact information as you enter. Masks are required, and you must sit where the ushers direct you. These procedures help keep us all safe.

Coming into the holiday season, start stocking up on your gift cards now! They make perfect presents for teachers, babysitters, college kids, and those hard-to-shop-for people on your list. All Souls/Dia de Los Muertos
It's not too late to send in 3x5" photos of your deceased loved ones for our remembrance tables in the school lobby and classrooms. We will continue to celebrate All Souls and Dia De Los Muertos until Thanksgiving break to remember and pray for the family members we have lost.
All are welcome to attend the All Souls Mass on MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2 at 7:00 p.m. in church.
School Spirit Dress Down Day
The Archdiocese of Chicago Office of Catholic Schools recently notified us that if we do not aggressively bring down our sizeable school deficit with some new sources of revenue, the future of our school beyond this year is in imminent jeopardy. To this end, the St. Ann School Board has launched the Angel Project, and you should have received a letter and pledge card in the mail.
We are asking EVERYONE--school families, friends, faculty & staff, parishioners, alumni, and community supporters--to pitch in on this effort and make a pledge. We are seeking donors to contribute at any level they are comfortable, but also hoping to gather many $1,000 or higher pledges as quickly as possible to show the Archdiocese we are serious about the future of our school. Pledges can be paid in installments over a 10-month period to make them more manageable.
Please talk with your family and friends, and pray over how you will participate. Ask grandparents and friends to go in on a pledge with you. Check at work if there is a corporate matching program to double your donation. Coming into the end of the year, many people are looking for additional charitable contributions to make for tax purposes--tell them your family's St. Ann story. The full letter may be accessed here if you wish to share it, or you may request additional copies in the office.
Donations may be made by returning the pledge form,
by texting ANGEL to 847-201-4236,
via PayPal to sasangel@stannschoollansing.org,
or at https://www.givecentral.org/location/100/event/27725
Thank you, thank you, thank you for joining in this effort with us!
Earn a $500 Referral Credit!
Word of mouth is our best recruiting tool! Won't you tell your friends about St. Ann School? Invite them to our upcoming Virtual Q&A for potential new families on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11. If your friends decide to send their children to SAS, be sure to give them a referral form so we know who to thank with a $500 tuition credit.

Nominate Your #SchoolHero Today!
We love our Catholic schools’ employees. Teachers, leaders and support staff have worked tirelessly over the summer and the start of our school year to bring exceptional in-person and remote learning to families during this unprecedented time. To recognize their fantastic work, the Office of Catholic Schools is excited to introduce the #SchoolHero program. We’ll highlight the educators and staff who have gone above and beyond in order to ensure a safe and productive learning environment through social media and the web. All school employees and families can nominate a school hero by completing a brief online form.
Marian Catholic will be hosting an on-site Open House on Sunday, November 8 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for 7th & 8th graders. Prospective Spartans will get an on-site overview of programs in academics, preparation for college, opportunities for involvement, leadership, and service at Marian Catholic! Please note that all families must pre-register for a time slot (walk-ins will not be allowed due to CDC guidelines on large gatherings). Our first Open House filled up quickly, so be sure to register today! Click on the image above for the registration link.
IMPORTANT FOR YOUR HOLIDAY PLANNING
Archdiocese of Chicago School Holiday Schedule
and All-System Remote Learning Announcement for January
While public health officials discourage gatherings during the Christmas season, we anticipate that some may choose to travel and visit family and loved ones during the school holiday. After considering our experience and the likelihood of familial and travel exposure, the Archdiocese has decided on a December and January schedule and remote learning policy that will help us avoid multiple cohort quarantines due to holiday-related infections.
- All Archdiocesan Catholic elementary schools will pivot to virtual learning for two full school weeks beginning Jan. 4. Schools will return to in-person learning on Jan. 19 (after the MLK Day holiday).
- Please note that the two weeks of remote learning are school days, not an extension of the holiday break.
- Moving to virtual learning for two weeks will allow families who choose to travel or attend family gatherings over the holidays to quarantine for 14 days without a loss of school days or learning time and without jeopardizing the health of other students and staff in their school.
- Schools may provide an on-site extended care option for students whose families would be unduly burdened by the need for two weeks of childcare, at the discretion of the local leadership. Please notify your school principal if your children will need on-site extended care during this period.
- If we experience a significant number of new cases after Jan. 19 because of non-compliance with safety protocols, we will consider additional virtual learning periods for the safety of our school communities. For this reason, we once again urge all families to observe public health guidelines.
- Classes will remain in person for the time period between Thanksgiving and Christmas Break. If families or employees are intending to travel for the holiday season, we encourage you to do so over Christmas break and return in time to quarantine for two weeks before classes resume on Jan. 19.
ARE YOU SENDING IN YOUR STRACKS RECEIPTS? PLEASE ASK OTHERS TO SAVE THEM FOR YOU TOO!
Collect Strack & VanTil Food Market register receipts dated between September 1 and March 1 to help St. Ann earn FREE educational rewards! Every classroom has a Collection Envelope, and we will be tallying the value of the receipts turned in. The class that brings in the most will win a prize!
Did you know your purchases can make a difference? Don't forget to shop through our AmazonSmile link every time! AmazonSmile donates to St. Ann when you do your shopping at smile.amazon.com/ch/36-2601098. And if you purchase Amazon gift cards through the St. Ann TRIP program, you will also get money back toward your tuition!
