HES List Server Message
October 20, 2017
Hello Holland Elementary Parents,
If you purchase your all-inclusive wristband via the Online Store through October 24th, it is now $15 instead of $20. If you have a big family, do not fear! Families with three more kids pay a fixed $40 if purchased via the Online Store. Families who have a vehicle at Trunk-or-Treat will get one free wristband.
If you don't purchase your wristbands early, they will be available "at the door" for $20 and $45.
Don’t forget that there will be two food trucks, pizza, and lots of snacks! The food trucks accept credit/debit cards but the PTO-provided food will be cash-only.
The PTO is still looking for volunteers for the Spooky Hallway (sixth grade families), the food tables and the games/activities.
Please RSVP on the PTO Website with number of Trunk-or-Treaters so we can let families know how much candy to bring.
The Vehicle Registration Form can be found here. Registration will be accepted through October 20th. ALL VEHICLES PARTICIPATING IN TRUNK-OR-TREAT MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED!

Be a Buddy, Not a Bully Week
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and it is a time when schools across the country help spread the message of the anti-bullying movement. This year, we are celebrating with our second annual Be a Buddy, Not a Bully Week at Holland Elementary School from October 27th through November 3rd. Along with special activities, we will also have school-wide theme days.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 30th - Relay for Life – Relay Recess! – Wear purple and get ready to learn how we can fight against cancer.
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 31st - Say Boo to Bullying! – Wear your scary, spooky, funny Halloween costumes for the parade.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 1st - Put a CAP on Bullying – Wear your favorite cap or hat (excuse to have a messy hair day).
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd - Team Up Against Bullying! – Wear your favorite team/club shirt or jersey.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd - Get CRAZY with Kindness – Crazy hair day, crazy socks – you choose (or do both)!
Please note that participation in these activities is optional.
Halloween Parade and Party Information
Below is a link to the information regarding the HES Halloween Parade which is scheduled for Tuesday, October 31st at 2:30 pm. In the event that weather requires that the students parade inside, we will inform the community early in the day via list server message and post any changes on the HES home page. Please note that the parking lot will be blocked off at 2:20 pm that afternoon so we do not have moving traffic with parading students.
Attention Homeroom Parents: Please refer the following Healthy Snacks Memo 2017 regarding district expectations for food items at classroom parties.
Relay Recess
A Relay Recess event will be taking place at Holland Elementary on Monday, October 30, 2017. The American Cancer Society® Relay For Life® already exists in our community, providing an event where community members have the opportunity to honor cancer survivors and remember those who have battled cancer while raising money for the American Cancer Society. To support that community event, we are having our very own Relay Recess here at the school!
The students at Holland Elementary are going to walk “relay style” during their recess to raise awareness about how to prevent cancer (wear sunscreen, don’t smoke, and exercise). For the Relay Recess, students will be walking around the playground (or the gym in the event of rain) to try and help raise money for the American Cancer Society. We are hoping to raise awareness and to make a difference in our community. Help us make this a success for them.
HES students can raise funds during the walk-a-thon by getting sponsors, shopping at our Relay Shop ($0.50-$3.00 items available) the week before the event, and purchasing a lap bracelet ($1) to keep track of their laps during our relay. The sponsor form is attached to this message, and a hard copy will be coming home this week. Also, members of the student council will be selling the relay items before school from Monday, October 23rd through Thursday, October 26th.
Students will also be encouraged to wear purple that day for our event which will take place on Monday, October 30, 2017 and should be a fun-filled event for the kids!
Fifth Grade Art Exhibit at Go Bananas
The showcase for parents and students to view the art exhibit at Go Bananas has been extended until Friday, October 27th. Check out our students' artwork and feel free to use your PTO Go Bananas coupon!
Book Fair, Coin Challenge, and Author Visit
The Book Fair will be next week from October 23rd to the 26th with the late night of October 24th 4:00-7:00pm. There will be an online book fair for parents to shop via the Library home page.
The Coin Challenge is Back!
Second Place Prize:
Each day the class with the most money will have its name placed in a cup at the end of the week one name will be drawn and the winning class will receive a Rita's Water Ice party the first week of Spring.
Grand Prize:
- Copy of each poster sold at the book fair
- Goodie basket of pencils, erasers, book marks and books
- Any large poster drawing created by an author during the author visit will be signed by the author

On Friday November 3rd, author/illustrator, Kevin McCloskey, will visit students in K-6. In order to prep for his visit, the students will be creating books similar to those created by Kevin McCloskey. Book order forms are due October 23rd, and the form can be found at the following link: Kevin McCloskey Order Form.
Box Tops for Education
Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10¢ for our school! Just look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products. All you have to do is clip them and send them to school (in a Ziploc bag or attached to a collection sheet with your child's name and teacher clearly labeled).
Each month, the Box Tops will be tallied and the five students who submit the most Box Tops will earn a pretzel party with me! Additionally, the classroom that submits the most Box Tops will be awarded a treat from the PTO at the end of the marking period!
Every little bit counts and helping the PTO helps to enrich our children's education. If there are any questions, please contact Alicia Gontarek.
The 2017 Scooper Bowl is a Ticketed Event. There will be no tickets sold at the door at the event. Each ticket gives the ticket holder a choice of any handmade ceramic bowl and one scoop of ice cream. Many toppings will be available to make a delicious dessert!
Parents must Pre-order a bowl and their ice cream choice on the Scooper Bowl Order Form and place in an envelope with cash payment. Payment is Cash Only, thank you!
Please get this order back to your Mrs. AuBuschon at school as soon as possible. Ms. AuBuchon will give the student a ticket after receiving the order. There will only be as many tickets as there are ceramic bowls to purchase. When all bowls are sold - there will be no more tickets.
The deadline for orders is Friday, November 10th - but don't wait! Tickets are selling fast!
Thank you for supporting Jackson's Heroes Foundation!
