Glenn Elementary Mission
The Glenn Community will collaborate to empower each student to be a responsible, active learner in order to achieve personal excellence.
Literacy Goal
By May of 2015, 82% of students in grades 1-5 will meet or exceed expectations in literacy.
(In the fall of 2014, 80% of students in grades 1-5 met or exceeded expectations in literacy.)
Professional Learning Communities
Kindergarten and first grade teachers work collaboratively during Late Start Days to plan instructional strategies for students receiving Interactive Writing, a targeted, small group reading intervention.
In May of 2015, 83% of students in grades 1 - 5 meet or exceed expectations in literacy.
Math Goal
By May of 2015, 70% of students in grades 1-5 will meet or exceed expectations in math.
(In the fall of 2014, 65% of students in grades 1-5 met or exceeded expectations in math)
Math Workshop
Students in all grade levels work collaboratively in small groups and/or with a partner during math workshop. Students in first grade play math games to strengthen computation skills and automaticity.
In May of 2015, 73% of students in grades 1-5 meet or exceed expectations in math.
Culture Goal
The percent of teachers who respond "To a great extent" to student disrespect of teachers on the 2015 5Essentials Survey will decrease.
(In the spring of 2014, 33% of teachers responded "To a great extent" to student disrespect if teachers on the 5Essentials Survey.)
Respect Lunch
Students eat lunch with community members who discuss the importance of respectful behavior. Each month teachers nominate students to participate. In addition to military personnel, athletes from ISU serve as mentors for our students.
Kid President
Each week students viewed a different video created by Kid President. These inspirational videos are, not only fun to watch, but motivating as well. A favorite video this year is "For the Heroes: A Pep Talk from Kid President."
The percentage of teachers who responded "To a great extent" to student disrespect of teachers decreased from 33% to 14% on the 2015 5Essentials Survey.
