Saranac High School Counseling News
September 2020
Welcome
Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year! We know this is an nontraditional start to the school year but we wanted to welcome all families especially our newest families from Middle School or those families new to our district. Please remember we are here for all students. If your child is struggling with remote learning or has any questions please let us know so we can help. We can be reached on Schoology, by email or by phone.

Senior Parent Night
The Senior Parent Presentation has been recorded on Zoom. When the link is available it will be shared with senior families. Once available the link will also be placed on the counseling website for you to view at your convenience. In this recording you'll find info on: graduation requirements, college application process, high school to work transition, military options, what to expect out of senior year, how to make the most of it! We appreciate your flexibility with this presentation format. We apologize that we could not do this in person as we typically do. If you have any questions please let us know and we'll be happy to answer those questions for you.
Seniors....TWO SAT offerings!
In addition to the September 23rd SAT we are now offering a second date. Please sign up for the October 14th SAT ASAP. We know many of our local SAT locations have had to shut down this spring, summer and now fall. Having the ability to offer School Day Testing should be very helpful to our seniors. Payment can be mailed or dropped off at the counseling office in the High School ASAP.
CAP Registration and Scholarship Opportunity
Please be aware that on Wednesday, September 23rd any students taking a CAP class will meet in the High School LGI for a quick 15 minute registration in the afternoon. We will email our CAP students/families with their time slot. If your student cannot attend this brief meeting please let Mrs. Rosenbaum or Mrs. Sproule know ASAP. Students will be excused from any missed classes during this registration. Attached you will find a link to a scholarship opportunity should your family need help paying for the class or multiple classes. Clinton has extended this scholarship so we ask that you complete and return these to Mrs. Rosenbaum or Mrs. Sproule by September 25th. If your student is able to bring the completed form when they attend the registration that would be helpful. The family will only complete page two and the counselor will complete page three of the attached application.
Senior Meetings
We began our senior meetings on Monday September 21st. Students should utilize the link provided in Schoology to schedule their appointment with Mrs. Rosenbaum or Mrs. Sproule. During this meeting we discuss plans for life after high school. These meetings are required and it is up to the student to make the appointment. These meetings will run through December so if a student feels they need more than one appointment that is completely fine. Please encourage your child to make an appointment ASAP!
PSAT Moved to January
Juniors: Please note the PSAT has been moved from October 14th to January 26, 2021. We apologize for the schedule change but feel that given the circumstances this is the best plan.
Freshmen
Welcome to High School! We typically would have offered a Freshman Orientation in late August however, we will work to figure out something that will help you acclimate to your new surroundings as we approach the hybrid model. For now, be on the lookout in early October for a zoom recording featuring Mrs. Rosenbaum and Mrs. Sproule reviewing graduation requirements, activities and clubs you can join during high school, and what to expect out of high school.
