World News
- April 7 - World Language Proficiency Survey - For 8th grade students only.
The Mukilteo School District wants to help students obtain the high school credits they need to graduate by giving them the opportunity to earn credits for a language they already know. The district will conduct assessments that allow eligible students to take a world language proficiency exam (WLPE). Students may earn up to four high school world language credits based on how they perform on the exam. Exams are available in more than 70 languages.
Students who are in grades 8-12 and can read, write, speak, and understand a language other than English are eligible to register to take an exam. Before registering, students should assess the level of their own abilities. The number of credits given is based on how well a student performs on different parts of the exam. You must be able to perform in all four areas to pass the assessment.
Congratulations to the March Pirates of the Month!
These students were selected by OV staff for the trait of “Humility”.
Thank you to each of these Pirates for leading by example. 💚🖤🏴☠️

AVID ELECTIVE CLASS
Here at OV, we offer a wonderful class called AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). The AVID elective class builds on the principle that all students, regardless of educational background can succeed in school and in their post-high school plans. AVID achieves this through creating a relational capacity between students and teacher where they interact as a family and support and encourage each other. Students become proficient in taking and interacting with their focused notes, they learn how to clarify questions they have in their other academic classes, practice how to ask for help when they need it, work on organizational skills, reflect on their learning and most important they work on how they learn how to plan and manage their time in order to be successful in school.
All of this leads to being successful in high school, but it also prepares them for being successful in whatever post-secondary setting they choose. The AVID class if offered to 7th and 8th graders and students must go through an application and interview process to enroll in the class. Current 6th and 7th graders are encouraged to apply, applications may be printed at home using this link or picked up in the office. Applications are due to the office no later than April 8th.
Save and Print Forms Below
AVID is also offered at Kamiak and current 8th graders can apply for 9th grade using the following QR code.
The sessions are offered in one-hour blocks with up to 5 other students. They are available after school, evenings and weekends. Students may drop-in to a session, but reservations are recommended as some sessions may fill up.

Library News
Students usually visit library twice/month for checkout. Therefore books that are checked out have a two week window for check out. Any books that are not finished at the end of those 2 weeks can be renewed, as long as there are no holds on those titles.
Here are the top 3 things you need to know:
- Hours are 7:35 - 8:00 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays (not Wednesdays)
- We will limit capacity for the first 30 students & they are not allowed to visit other areas of the buildings (they would need to sign out, like a class)
- Cell phones are to be put away during this time. (What will students do without their phones?)

The Mukilteo School District acknowledges that we are gathered on Indigenous Lands, the traditional territory of the Coast Salish People, specifically the Tulalip Tribes, successors in interest to the Snohomish, Snoqualmie, Skykomish, and other allied bands signatory to the 1855 Treaty to Point Elliott. The district serves a diverse population of about 15,000 students who live near the Puget Sound about 15 miles north of Seattle, Washington. Our mission is to help prepare our community's children to be successful, contributing members of the community. Our students learn in an environment that is positive, caring, and focused on their highest academic potential. And, it's working. Mukilteo students consistently score well in annual achievement tests and win academic honors. Many people have moved to the area because of the first-rate Mukilteo school system.
