News from this week
Dear Parents,
Reminder that Wednesday and Thursday, September 27 & 28 are Early Release days due to Parent-Teacher conferences. Students will be dismissed at 12:15 on those days. If you have not yet signed up for a conference the information is below. I still have a few parents who have not signed up, and I want to make sure that I am able to meet with everyone to discuss the progress of your child. If you have trouble signing up or none of the dates and times work for you, please just send me a message, and we can set up a convenient time. Conferences days are September 27 and 28, but I also offer times before and after those dates.

In Math, we have moved into solving Division problems using Partial Quotients. This is a little different than the way we learned as children, so if you are not sure how to do it to help your child, I have several resources on my website to help. I have emphasized to the students how important it is that they know all of their multiplication facts. Please make sure your child studies those facts every night, even if they know them well. It is critical that they know them in almost everything we do in Math this year. I have several games on my website that can help make that practice more fun.
I will continue to have Math Morning help sessions every Tuesday morning, unless I tell you otherwise. Just drop your child off at the front doors at 7:15 and they can walk on their own to my classroom. You can drive right through the bus loop since buses will not be there at that time. Please do NOT use the car rider lane on the side of the building. If I ever need to cancel on a Tuesday, I will send a message via Remind.
If your child is interested in submitting a writing piece for the Promise of Gwinnett Writing Contest, the deadline to turn it in is next Friday, Sept. 29. See the Information section of the newsletter for more information.
Thank you to those who have donated items to our class treasure chest! I will continue to take donations throughout the year. If you have a question about any items you might want to donate, please send me an email.
Reminder that reading logs and Typing logs are due every Monday. I had several students this week not turn in logs. Please make sure to sign your child's reading log every week or else it will not be counted. Also, if you decide to submit the reading log online, please send me an email by Monday morning. I do not get a list of online submissions, so I need to get the confirmation of submission from the parents.
Homecoming is this weekend at Brookwood. They will have a parade at 5:00 and the football game will begin at 7:30. I hope to see some of you there!
Have a great weekend!
Sabine Stoffle

Message from Dr. Barlow
Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s), The Gwinnett County Public School System is committed to providing students with the best possible education and school experience. We recognize, however, that there is always room for growth and improvement. An excellent way for us to determine how to improve is by asking you. Your response is especially important because you can help us determine where improvements are needed. Please take a few minutes to complete the RBES Parent Survey located on the Parent Portal from September 25, 2017 through November 3, 2017. If you need a paper copy of the survey in English or Spanish, please notify your child's teacher. Thank you for taking the time to help us with this important survey. Your participation now will help us to provide even better educational experiences in the future.
Sincerely,
Dr. Barlow
Principal
Promise of Gwinnett Writing Competition
We are excited to announce Believe:The Promise of Gwinnett Writing Contest for GCPS students, K-12. The theme of this writing competition is Believe: The Promise of Gwinnett. While students are not responding to a specific prompt, they should write about “promise.” For example, What do you believe in? Why is it important to believe in others? How does your beliefs system shape your future? How does your family encourage your dreams? Why should people strive to fulfill their promise? Why do you believe public education is important? What do you hope to do with your education?
All entries must be the student's original work. Entries must be typed or handwritten on 8.5 x 11 inch paper. Print on one side of the paper only. Do not bind, make a cover for, decorate, laminate, or otherwise alter the original paper on which the entry is written.
The entries may be completed as the student's genre of choice: short stories, poetry, essays, expository writing, personal narratives, or any other original student writing.
We will submit one winner for each grade level. All entries must turned in to me by September 29th. A committee will select one winner for each grade level to represent GOES at the county level.
Believe: The Promise of Gwinnett Writing Contest district winners for each grade level will also be submitted as the district winners for Young Georgia Authors.
