Ranger News
January 10, 2021
From the Principal
Ranger Patrons,
Raymond Park extends congratulations to students that made our Term 2 Academic Honor Rolls. An outstanding achievement during any school year, the challenges connected to this year's pandemic make this accomplishment particularly noteworthy - CONGRATULATIONS!
Communication that is timely and accurate is important. Communicating the happenings of a 4-grade, 1200+ student school during a "normal" year has been challenging. This year's 100% VIRTUAL, HYBRID and IN-PERSON models have mightily increased the complexity of communication at a time when uncertainty and change make accurate and timely communication as important as ever! Thank you for your understanding and patience in reading through newsletter information that applies in different ways to different groups.
Effective communication for multiple circumstances requires an understanding of student/school groups to which information pertains. Reference the following when reading this school newsletter from the Raymond Park Perspective:
- "IN-PERSON" refers to 5th grade students that were attending school daily at RP prior to Marion County's order for all students to attend virtually.
- "HYBRID" refers to students that were attending RP on alternating days (6th-8th grades) prior to Marion County's order for all students to attend virtually.
- "100% VIRTUAL" refers to students that were attending school virtually prior to Marion County's order for all students to attend virtually.
District Plan for Semester 2 Return: Due to our Marion County and local COVID-19 data, we continue in this second semester in the VIRTUAL model. K-5 students will remain VIRTUAL through Friday, January 15th with a return to IN-PERSON or 100% VIRTUAL on Tuesday, January 19th. Students in 6th-12th grades will remain 100% VIRTUAL through Friday, February 12th with a return to HYBRID IN-PERSON / VIRTUAL on Wednesday, February 17th. Tuesday, February 16th is a scheduled eLearning day for K-12 students.
There has been an adjustment made to the live instruction and application day schedule to begin the second semester:
- IN-PERSON 5th grade students will continue to have live, synchronous, virtual instruction on each day of the week (no change).
- 100% VIRTUAL students in 5th and 6th grade will continue to follow the Black and Gold schedule observed during the second 9 weeks with Fridays remaining as an academic enrichment day for all students.
- HYBRID 6th-8th grade students and 7th and 8th grade 100% VIRTUAL students now have live instruction on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays each week. Students should continue to follow their synchronous class schedule, and attendance on live instruction days will be taken by teachers based on Zoom conference participation. Tuesdays and Thursdays will be application days. Students will self-report attendance for classes on application days through Canvas. This schedule will take the place of the Black and Gold Schedule that was used during the second 9-week grading period; students will now get the benefit of live instruction 3 days each week.
This schedule adjustment will also allow 6-8 students to have better access to their teachers on application days. Beginning the week of January 11, application days for 6-8 HYBRID and 7-8 100% VIRTUAL will include opportunities for in-person, virtual, and afterschool learning hubs.
Learning Hubs are intentional, scheduled opportunities for students to receive reteach and support. There are three types of learning hubs that will occur on application days (Tuesday and Thursday) for the next 5 school weeks:
1. In-Person Learning Hubs will be scheduled 9:00 am-12:00 or 1:30pm. The are invitation-only opportunities for students to receive in-person reteach and support at Raymond Park. Students are selected for this opportunity based on conditional growth measures on the latest NWEA assessment as well as observed virtual learning struggles. Selected students and families will be invited directly by their grade level administrator with teachers providing follow-up communication. Though listed as an in-person learning hub, the first week of January 11 will occur virtually.
2. Virtual Learning Hubs are scheduled to occur between 2:30 and 4:00pm on Tuesday and Thursday application days and will occur via Zoom virtual conferencing. This timeframe will consist of both private tutoring time with invitations coming via email to students and general office hours where teachers are available for all students to enter the virtual classroom. Teacher-specific times and links will be provided on class Canvas pages. Please contact individual teachers, grade level administrators or grade level counselors to request virtual learning hub tutoring opportunities.
3. After School Learning Hubs are available for all students on Tuesday and Thursday application days between 4:00 and 5:30pm. This is a walk-in opportunity for students to receive tutoring and support in language arts and math in the Raymond Park cafeteria. Students must provide their own transportation to school for an afterschool learning hub, but are welcome to ride the 5:30 activity bus home afterward. Participating students should enter at door 1 and proceed to the cafeteria for tutoring (face masks are required).
School Choice Opportunities for Second Semester: Families with students in grades 6th-8th grade will be able to request their second semester learning model choice, HYBRID IN-PERSON / VIRTUAL or 100% VIRTUAL starting on Friday, January 15th until Friday, January 29th at 4 PM. The request forms will be linked on RP's website. Similar to K-5, this will be the last opportunity to request a change for the 2020-21 school year.
Term 3 Material Pick-Up. Since we have started a new semester, students and families will need to pick up new materials for their classes. Materials can be retrieved in the RP office between 8:30am and 4pm daily. We ask that 1 representative per family that can pass the Covid-19 screening protocols visit the RP office to retrieve materials.
MSD Warren Continues Food Distribution. Continuing the week of January 11, food distributions will occur Tuesdays and Fridays from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Moorhead Community Resource Center, Warren Central High School, Creston, Raymond Park, and Stonybrook Intermediate Middle Schools.
WIDA testing will begin this week for all identified English Learner students. 5th grade students will begin testing on their return to in-person instruction during the week of January 18th. Parents of 6th - 12th grade students will be contacted to arrange a date and time for your child to be tested.
The complexity of school circumstances requires communication that is timely and accurate. Please don't hesitate to reach out through email reply to this newsletter or through grade level administrators and counselor contacts provided at the bottom of this newsletter with questions or concerns - we are here to serve and support you and your students in their education endeavors!
