The Evolution of Humans
This is about humans. You're a human right? (I hope)
Modern Humans
The picture below is a human. That's a modern human now. Homo Sapiens is what scientists use to call our species.
Similar Species
This picture shows species that we (humans) are closely related to. The skeletons show similar bone structures, like the rib cage and skull.
Similar Species
These are the skeletons of human and their ancestors.
Australopithecus Afarensis
The Australopithecus Afarensis lived between 3.9 and 2.9 million years ago. They were found in Eastern Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania. The average height for males were 4 feet 11 inches and for females, it was 3 feet 5 inches. The human males aren't that far from our height but the human females have a 2 feet difference. The average weight for ales is 92 lbs and the weight for females is 64 lbs. The species was discovered in 1974.
Homo Habilis
Homo habilis lived between 2.8 and 1.5 million years ago. They had a bigger brain case than Australopithecus Afarensis and they had smaller teeth. The average height for them was 3 feet 4 inches- 4 feet and 5 inches. The average weight was 70 lbs. They discovered this species in 1960.
Homo Neanderthals
Homo Neanderthals became extinct about 40,000 or 28,000 years ago. They were discovered around 1829. These species are the ones that are closest to us. They lived in Europe, the Southwest and Central Asia. Their height is very close to ours. The height for males is 5 feet 5 inches and for females, it is 5 feet 1 inch. Their average weight is 143 lbs (males) and 119 lbs (females).
Homo Sapiens (US!)
Now for homo sapiens, or humans. We never became extinct, thank the Lord and we now live in houses with fancy cars, and fancy gadgets. We humans have also polluted the world with these gadgets. But otherwise, we're ok.
Our ancestor
Our common ancestor is the chimpanzee. Chimpanzees are the common ancestor for Homo (human) and Pan (chimpanzee). Chimpanzees have lived from about 25 million years ago.
Where did we come from
We came from small bacteria in the water. Then we became an organism that became a fish. After that the fish went onto land and became a dinosaur. Then we evolved to monkeys and we survived the giant asteroid that made all dinosaurs extinct. Next we evolved and we became a human.
