Schmucker PTO Newsletter

April 2020

From the PTO

We know that life can change in an instant and our world has been turned upside down this past month as we adjust to the ramifications that COVID19 is having on our daily lives. April will have more changes as we face the next 30 days to flatten the curve against COVID19. We hope you are staying safe and following the CDC recommendations.

Schmucker has an outstanding network of families and we want to be there for each other as we face the challenges ahead. If you or someone you know is in a particularly tough situation given what we all are facing, please reach out to the PTO and let us know. We may not have all the answers, but we certainly want to be there for our SMS families as we move forward in 2020.

SMS PTO Facebook Page

While we are not in school for the remainder of the year, that doesn't mean we need to miss out on ways to connect with each other. During March we had a few people share what they were doing with their extra time at home while our SMS students were eLearning. We met a few classroom pets and learned about some new extracurriculars taking place at home. If you aren't already following the Schmucker PTO FB page, you can click here to join. Please invite other SMS families to follow our page as well. We'll see you there.

Planning for the future SMS PTO

We are currently seeking volunteers for our PTO Board and Committee Positions for the 2020/2021 school year. Board positions that are open include: President Elect, Treasurer, and Corresponding Secretary. There are numerous Committee Chair positions available as well.

Would you or someone you know be a great asset to our PTO? Please send your self nominations or nominate a person you know to Claudia Mager (2020/2021 PTO President) via email at or cell 574.323.7298. Thank you for considering and helping us fill the next Schmucker PTO Board and Committee Leader positions.

Restaurant Night in April

We have a Hacienda Give-Back event currently scheduled for Tuesday, April 21st at the Grape Road location. Under these extenuating circumstances we completely understand if you are avoiding restaurant take-out services. Your family’s health is of the utmost importance! However, if you decide that you would like a break from cooking and want to participate in our give back night, you can still help out by purchasing a gift card or ordering take out on April 21st. Simply let them know while placing your order that you are supporting the Schmucker PTO give-back event and show the Hacienda “token” displayed below on your mobile phone at pick-up. You can place your order that day by calling (574) 277-1318.

Big picture

Teacher Appreciation

Even though our March teacher appreciation date did not occur, all the fun grab bags were ready and in the teacher boxes before the school closed. The teachers were able to get their much needed gift cards and other surprises as they came in for their final teacher meetings. Thank you for your generous support!

May General PTO Meeting

Our next PTO meeting is scheduled for May 7th. Our plan is to do a ZOOM video call. We will update you with more details when we have them.

Do you know an accountant?

Schmucker PTO is looking for an accountant to prepare and file our taxes on an annual basis beginning in the 2020/2021 school year. We would love to hear your suggestions and hire a Schmucker connection. Send accounting suggestions to Claudia Mager, PTO President 2020/2021, or 574.323.7298.

The Parent Teacher Organization at Schmucker Middle School plays a vital role in supplementing the educational experiences of our children. The funds raised by the PTO allow our students to have opportunities not funded by the school budget.
