The counting is done, the tallies are in and the totals are ready. This semester's Box Top winners are.... (Drum roll)….

The grade with the most Box Tops is 4th Grade

3rd place class : Mrs. Magoni 4th grade, 855 Box Tops

2nd place class: Mrs. Tisch 4th grade, 881 Box Tops

Union Elementary wins every day with our amazing administrators, teachers, bus drivers, maintenance crews, food service staff and so many more who make our school what it is, and today we announce that we are also Eagle Honors winners. That means that you, the Union parents, sent more Eagle Honors awards than any other school and we have been rewarded. Keep you eyes peeled for a special Sign Gypsies sign in front of the school on Tuesday and one next year as well.

Avoid the cluster, stress and lines at Target in August by ordering your students' Back to School Supplies through us. While your friends are dropping millions on Ticonderoga pencils and searching for just the right yellow folder, you will be resting comfortably poolside or at home rolling in the money you saved, knowing that a complete and affordable box of just the right supplies are already sitting on your child's desk.

Dads Club

Calling all Dads! Join us the first Tuesday of every month for our monthly meeting. Check out our calendar on the Dad’s Club webpage and our Facebook page Union Elementary Dads Club. Our next meeting will be held in August. Have a great summer, all!

Lost and Found

Is your child missing a sweatshirt, jacket, or winter gloves and hat??? The Lost & Found table is overflowing with items. All items left after the last day of school, Tuesday, May 28, 2019 will be donated to a local charity.

What’s happening in the Outdoor Gardens?

This summer, Peter Shrote will be terracing the gardens and building a compost bin to become an Eagle Scout. The new outdoor garden liaisons, Aimee Simington-Pearce and Megan Moss have plans for improvement, which include building a permanent bridge since the old Spotlight Night bridge was a student favorite. A creek created with stones painted by students will meander under the bridge. If you have carpenter skills and would consider taking on the building of the bridge, please contact Aimee or Megan. We hope this summer you and your family include the outdoor gardens as a place to relax and enjoy nature.

Attention 4th Grade Families!

In an effort to help students transition from elementary school to middle school, ZCS will be offering OPTIONAL 1 hour Tech Boot Camp sessions to any incoming 5th grader at Zionsville Middle School. Boot Camp sessions will be held on July 29 and 31. Sessions are held at 12:30-1:30PM and 1:30-2:30PM each day. Students will be encouraged to bring their laptop as we learn how to:

Access and connect to the school’s wireless network

Log into Office 365

Access e-mail

Save files to OneDrive

Download Office 2016 for FREE if needed

Navigate their new Canvas courses

Setup Wireless Printing

Parents are welcome to stay and learn as well, but the 1 hour session will be student focused. Space is limited! Sign your child up TODAY at http://bit.ly/ZMSBoot .

We are asking for your assistance in picking up any medication that your child currently may have in the health care clinic by May 28, 2019. We will not be sending any medication home with students, even over the counter medication. Parents must pick up ALL medication.

Any medicine that is not picked up by the end of the day May 28th will be destroyed.

Thank you very much for your help in this matter.

Sincerely yours,

Cyneka Hooks

Important-Updated Immunization Requirements for 2019-2020

The Indiana State Department of Health school immunization requirements for 2019-2020 have been updated. Click here to view these new requirements as they have recently changed. Students who do not have the Hepatitis A series may need to get the first dose as soon as possible as there is a minimum interval of six calendar months between the first and second doses. Religious and medical objections to the immunization requirements must be updated and signed each school year. Please feel free to send updated immunization records to the health clinic as you receive them. Contact the school nurse or your physician’s office with any questions.

Background Check Information

We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.

Examples include:

  • Field Trip Chaperones
  • Out of Town/Overnight Chaperones
  • Tutors
  • Volunteer Coaches
  • Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
  • Library Helpers
  • After Prom Workers
  • Field Day/Jog-A-Thon Volunteers
  • Book Fair Sales/Athletic Ticket Sales

During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee* for the full background check which will expire after 5 years. The link to apply for the full background check can be accessed on the Volunteers/BRAVO link on the ZCS main webpage. For more information, contact the Volunteer/BRAVO Coordinator.

During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.

Examples Include:

  • Lunch Guests
  • Classroom Guest Speakers
  • Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences

We ask that all visitors schedule an appointment to meet with teachers, counselors, administrators and all other staff members so that we may best serve everyone. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.

*ZCS thanks all volunteers for generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check
