Wax Museum Is Coming Up Soon!
Friday, April 12 1:15-2:30
There will not be seating available in the gym- the entire gym will be filled with tables to display the kids' work. Several kids have asked about that, so I wanted to make you aware that there will be space between tables to walk only. Students must remain in the gym for the entire museum. Please no food or drinks in the gym.
Wax Museum Costume!
If you haven't sent in your costume, please do so. If you're renting, please let me know that one is coming. If you need helping with the costume, please let me know that as well.If you have a weapon as part of the costume, you need to bring it to school and take it home. Please don't send it on the bus. You can drop it off on the morning of April 12 or you can bring it when you come to see the museum.
Coats Needed
Please continue to send a coat with your child. Morning recess is still quite chilly and we want everyone to be dressed safely for the temperature.
If you’d like to sit with your child at lunch we’d love to have you. Lunch begins at 11:47 a.m. If you wish to eat the school lunch, please call the office to order a tray.
Reading
We finished our reading unit by focusing on reading with expression. We are working hard on trying to identify the tone of voice we should be using when reading based on the clues from the text- characters' thoughts, feelings, and actions and words from the text. We continue to practice and review comprehension strategies, phonics, and fluency on a daily basis.
Math
Data and Graphing
Pictographs
identifying parts of the graph- title, labels, data, numbers
analyzing the data
Those who have not finished subtraction should be bringing homework home nightly to practice. With only 7 weeks left I'm concerned that we're going to run out of days for them to pass their levels and 100 facts in 5 minutes.
Goals for Subtraction Facts
Level M by March 8-
Level Z by May 22
Once a student reaches Level Z and can do at least 95 out of 100 subtraction problems in 5 minutes they move to multiplication facts.
English and Writing
In writing, we finished up the last of the wax museum presentation boards and started a new unit on realistic fiction. We are in the planning stages of how we became a pirate piece.
English skills: we took a break from English while swimming, but we are reviewing some skills for NWEA.
