Message from the Director
"Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you." Author Anne Lamott is right and it's important that you give yourself permission to do just that. I hope Fall Break gave most of you some time to charge your batteries and replenish your physical and emotional energy. While stress is a natural part of life, the unrelenting challenges we are facing are likely to lead to burnout if we don't take measures to prevent it. Self care is the number one weapon against burnout. Find time to do things you like to do. This means you may have to shift your perspective and delegate tasks to others at home or at work. Seek connections with others to see how they are handling new pressures. I follow several Facebook groups and it's interesting to see how other schools across the country are navigating labor and supply shortages. Search for these groups on social media and check them out: TIPS for School Meals that Rock and Indiana School Nutrition Association Professionals. It always helps to know you are not alone. Please, take care of yourself with all the passion you have for taking care of others.
With gratitude,
Kathy
You are appreciated!
FROM THE MIND OF A MANAGER : Jackie Schutz
This school year has been a challenge. From a shortage of employees to a shortage of food. The days seem long and hard. My advice is to stay organized, especially with changes. I like to keep the next (blue or green) week's production record handy. It makes it easier to forecast for the next time, but also when you have a change in product you have it right there to put the correct item name and gfs number down as it comes your way. Stay organized! Stay ahead of the game! Most of all, Stay Positive!
A great lady once told me (Jan Black) "at the end of the day, ask yourself two questions: 1. Did you feed all the kids? 2. Are they all alive??? If you answer yes to both, then you had a wonderful day!"
