4K Registration for the 20-21 School Year
Registration is now open for the District's Four-Year-Old Kindergarten Program for the 2020-2021 school year. Our District is proud of our 4K Learning Academies located at G.D. Jones, Hawthorn Hills, Riverview, and Thomas Jefferson elementary schools. Our 4K research-based learning model focuses on collaboration and provides a solid foundation for children to reach their full potential. Whether children are enrolled in one of the District's 4K Learning Academies or one of our collaborative community outreach sites - children and their families will be warmly welcomed and come to know and love the 4K program mascot, Tucker Turtle!
Click here to begin the 4K registration process, and click here for a listing of 4K Open Houses. Please know the District is accepting open enrollment registrations for our 4K program. If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Fisher at 715-261-0265.
If you or someone you know is interested in enrolling their four-year-old in the District's 4K program, please forward this email to them. Thank you.

We will try to give your child their classes chosen, however, there may be changes made in their class selection.
- Classroom teachers have recommended some students for Math Achievers and Study Zone. Please take advantage of these classes if your form has a recommendation note attached.
- Funding for this program has been reduced so we are limited to 120 students. Classes fill quickly. Please turn your registration in as soon as possible.
- We reserve the right to limit participation based on negative or aggressive behaviors exhibited during the school day as well as out of school hours.
- All contact information must be clearly filled out before returning your form. If it is not- form will be returned and you run the risk of losing class choices.
A note must be sent to authorize changes in the after school transportation plan and/or attendance. Call Lisa Carroll at 715-261-0180 with any questions or changes.
MATH NIGHT!!! Please join us February 25th from 5:30-6:15 pm in the Library!!

Kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grade classes will be screened for hearing only.

If there is a reason that you do now want your child screened, please let the office know.
Volunteer Corner
If you left a comment on last school year’s volunteer survey, be watching this spot in upcoming newsletters. I will be commenting and/or answering some comments that might be of interest to all.
As always…any volunteer questions can be directed to me, Roxane Hagedorn . I’m happy to help!
Some comments regarding the online volunteer login…
The site that I generally find is the one to sign up as a volunteer, which isn't the one I need to find the opportunities available.
Logging in and finding where to go on the computer is a pain. Wish there was an easier way of doing it.
Easier link to the actual volunteer website that shows opportunities if you are an already signed up/approved volunteer. The “For Volunteers” page on the District site has no link if you are ALREADY a volunteer and want to know what opportunities are available.
Answer!
If you have an existing account, there are a number of ways to get to the volunteer log in page. The easiest way is to bookmark myimpactpage.com
You can also find the log in page by going to wausauschools.org, looking under Departments and selecting the O.N.E. Volunteer Program and then going to the For Volunteers page. There has always been an existing user log in link. We placed a big purple arrow next to it so you can see it better.
Shutterfly Storefront Fundraising Program
Through the Shutterfly Storefront Fundraising Program you can earn donations for Thomas Jefferson.
For every purchase made, Shutterfly will donate 8% to your organization (after discounts and before shipping and taxes). Below is the link that will bring you directly to the site.
Raptor Visitor Management System
The Raptor Visitor Management System has been up and running since January 2, 2020. The new process has been going very smoothly.
The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. The Raptor Visitor Management System and process will help us ensure that people who may present a danger are kept away from our students and staff.
Upon entering a District school, visitors will be asked to present a valid state-issued ID, which will be checked against a national sex offender database to ensure that registered sex offenders are not entering our buildings. The Raptor system only checks the visitor's name and date of birth for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders. No other data from the ID is gathered or recorded. The system is not connected to any other database and information is not shared with any outside agency.
Once the visitor’s entry is approved, a badge will be issued that identifies the name of the visitor, the date and time, and the purpose of the visit. Children who do not have a valid ID may be allowed to visit as long as they are accompanied by an adult who has completed the check-in process and has been issued a badge. Regular volunteers and all contractors or subcontractors will be subject to the same procedure as visitors at all times. If the visitor’s identity cannot be verified through an acceptable form of identification, the visitor will not be allowed to proceed past the office area. The Raptor system does not replace our current volunteer process.
A visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit our schools to simply pick up or drop off an item in the office. A badge is also not necessary for those who are picking up their child from the office as long as they are not going into the school building.
The Raptor Visitor Management System and process will only be used during school hours. Attendees at after-hours events such as performances, ceremonies, or academic/athletic competitions will not be required to complete the process.
Thank you, in advance, for supporting our strengthened safety and security protocols in the Wausau School District.
Sincerely,
Angela Lloyd, Director of Pupil Services
Cover Your Cough
Why should I cover my cough?
“Colds” and serious respiratory illnesses like influenza (“the flu”) and whooping cough are spread by:
-Coughing and sneezing
-Unclean hands
These illnesses spread easily in crowded places where people are in close contact, like SCHOOLS!
When you cough or sneeze, it’s best to cover your mouth and nose so the germs aren’t sprayed into the room for other people to breathe. Everyone used to cover with their hands, but then, if hands weren’t washed right away, the germs got passed from hands to other people and still made them sick.
How do I stop the spread of germs?
Cough or sneeze into your elbow!
Hold your arm up even with your shoulder, then bring your hand in toward your chest. Bring your elbow up to your mouth and nose, and cough or sneeze.
It’s true, germs can land on your elbow, too, but you don’t use your elbow to hold food, pencils or toys, and you don’t use it to touch other people as you do with your hands.
How else can I stay healthy?
Clean your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Don’t share eating utensils, drinking glasses, or other personal items.
Get your flu shot.
