Spring is our competition season for the band program from 6th through 12th grade. All of our students in beginner band will have the opportunity to compete and perform this semester. Here is a little bit of information about each of the contests:
North Texas Festival of Distinction - Wednesday, April 24th at 10:45AM at Richland High School:
- SELECT BAND MEMBERS ONLY -
This is the biggest band competition in the state. This competition features about 300 bands hosted at 2 schools within 4 days! Our students will be competing against 40-50 different beginner bands for both a rating (1-5, where 1 is the best) and a ranking (We will know our ranking on Saturday night when the competition ends). This will be during school hours. Parents are welcome to attend!
Beginner Band Solo Contest - Tuesday, May 14th at SGC, performances begin around 4:45PM.
Yes, you read that right! Every student in the band program will play a solo once per year to demonstrate what they have learned on their instrument so far! Parents are welcome to enter and watch their students perform! Your child will be assigned a specific five minute time between 4:30-8:00pm that evening. More details soon to come!
Pride of Texas Music Festival - Friday, May 17th, perform at 10:20AM at Alley Cats, Hurst
This is for ALL of our SGC beginner band members! A much more laid back performance/competition! This will be during school hours. Help the Argyle Band Boosters celebrate our 1st annual 'Band on the Run' event on Saturday, May 11th, 2024!
All proceeds from this race will go directly to the Argyle Band Boosters and benefit the Argyle ISD High School Band. Please help us by registering to run or walk, or even by donating directly to support the activities of the band booster program. If you are looking to make a big impact for a great cause, please sign up or donate today!
Band Boosters are comprised of any parent who has a student in the band program, and we are proud to say we have a very high volunteer support group. The boosters assist the band by providing financial support for activities, scholarships, and private lessons, as well as any projects outside the domain of the school district's revenue. The Argyle Band Boosters is a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization that supports the band program.
Bring the entire family, your friends, and colleagues for a fun-filled musical morning! This is a community event open to all runners and non-runners, so we hope to see you on race day!
All info is available on the registration link below!
Mr. McNair is retiring!
Mr. McNair has been on the Argyle band staff for the last 14 years and has just announced his retirement. He has taught thousands of students in Argyle ISD, and the staff is so thankful to have been able to learn from and work with him! Our SGC students are so lucky to have had the opportunity to learn from him during his last year of being a band director.
Thank you, Mr. McNair, for all you've done for current and past student musicians!!
Braces, retainers, etc.
Please keep our performance schedule in mind as you schedule students to get braces, retainers, expanders, or any major dental work.
As you can tell by the schedule above, your students will stay very busy with performances and competitions this semester. The best time to do this is over the summer if possible.
It’s important that all band students stay in playing shape for the entire semester. Please do not schedule your students to get braces, have them removed, or have any major procedures done within 2 weeks of a performance if possible. These can take your students out of playing shape for several weeks sometimes as they learn to adjust the way they play and get used to the braces.
It’s also important to make sure you don’t have braces tightened within a few days of a performance as that will affect your students pretty dramatically as well.
