For Students & Guardians. 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm Meet & Greet @ JOES. Come by to drop your school supplies and meet your teacher.

Mrs Alice Stelly is one of our cafeteria technicians who is also a hairdresser. She will be here and has offered her time free of charge for free haircuts to students in need. She will be set up between 5 and 6. Her generosity and support is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to The JOES Family

2022-2023 Spirit Shirt

This year JOES Faculty & Staff have decided to go with a school wide theme of Louisiana. Each teacher chose a Louisiana Festival for their class theme. Since the largest Louisiana Festival is Mardi Gras that was used for the 2022-2023 Spirit Shirt. Order forms and money are due Friday, August 26. Order forms will be sent home and available at Meet & Greet. Sample sizes will be available at Meet & Greet for sizing questions.

Fall Individual & Class Pictures

Monday, August 22. This is the picture used for the yearbook so Uniforms must be worn.

Order forms will be sent home as soon as received. Class/Group pictures will also be taken

JOES Student IDs

We have received a few questions about the IDs on the supply list so I am hoping this will explain.

  • Every student at JOES will be issued an ID. The ID will have the barcode for the cafeteria & library and will also have the students QR code to log into their Chromebook. For example students will scan their ID before getting breakfast & lunch.
  • The classroom teacher will work out the procedures for the wearing of IDs - according to the grade level and need. The teacher will then relay that information to their students/guardians.
  • Lanyards/clips have been purchased. Students will use the school issued lanyards only while at school.
  • The QR code on the IDs are used to log into Clever and the Barcode is for the library & to scan for lunch and breakfast.

Uniform Reminders for the 2022-2023 School year

The Vermilion Parish School Board Dress Code Policy will be followed strictly in the 2022-2023 school year. JOES Faculty & Staff have found that uniforms have been pushed to the backburner due to the covid pandemic, hurricanes,... But all agree that we need to get back to following the policy. Since shopping occurs in the summer I felt it important to make a few reminders:

  • Sweatshirts and ¼ zip pullovers 1. Color must be solid navy, white, red, gray, black, or spirit/school team sweatshirts. 2. No emblems, monograms, or contrasting stitching are allowed except for logos/emblems approved by school. 3. Sweatshirts may be worn over polo or oxford during cold weather.
  • Undershirts 1. Color must be solid navy, gray, white, red, or black. 2. Undershirts must be tucked into the uniform bottom.
  • Belts 1. Color must be black, brown, khaki or navy. 2. Belts must be worn at all times in grades 1-12. The entire belt must be worn within the loops.
  • Friday Jean Days will be JEAN ONLY - Shorts will not be allowed. (The only shorts that will be allowed will be uniform shorts)
  • Guidelines for Non-Compliance Failure to comply with the guidelines for dress, appearance, or uniforms will result in parental contact by the school. Further noncompliance may result in one or all of the following: in-school suspension or suspension from school.

JOES Uniform Reminders:

- Hoodies will NOT BE allowed to be worn in the building .

- Jean Days are for JEANS OR Uniforms ONLY. No Shorts, No Sweatpants.

Jean days and non-uniform dress days will be used as fundraising opportunities and/or for student reward purposes throughout the year. These opportunities will be announced in advance by the school administration.

Jean Days

● Jeans ONLY, shorts are not allowed.

● Uniform shirts should be worn with jeans unless otherwise instructed.

● Violations on these days will result in 1) First offense - a phone call home for a change of clothes or a change of clothes will be given to the student from the uniform closet.

Non-Uniform Dress:

● Bottoms and dresses should be close to knee length.

● No bare shoulders (sleeveless tops, halter tops, spaghetti straps, visible undergarments, etc.). ● Any graphics on t-shirts must be appropriate for elementary school.

● Shoes need to be appropriate for P.E. class.

If you have any gently used uniforms that no longer fit and you wish to donate them to school please feel free to do so. We keep some on hand for accidents and incidentals. We will have a table available at Meet & Greet for anyone willing to donate/exchange.

Student Progress Center

Parents can access Vermilion School Student Progress Center, create an account and keep track of grades and attendance. Go to www.vpsb.net click on Parent, click on Student/Parent Command Center, and you should see the above sign in. If you do not already have an account you can Register New User. You will need a PSN number to set up your account. You may contact the school for that information by emailing your request for your PSN number. Make sure to state who will be creating the account because each guardian has a different number. verna.broussard@vpsb.net OR shana.boudreaux@vpsb.net.

FREE Fundraisers

Please continue to help Jesse Owens Elementary raise funds at no extra expense to you. Ask your family and friends to do the same. Your trash can be our treasure!!!

Box Tops: No more clipping. No more sending Box Tops to school. All you need is your phone. Download the ALL-NEW Box Tops app, shop as you normally would, then simply scan your store receipts to find participating products. The app will automatically credit your school's Box Tops earnings online.

Forward your email receipt to receipts@boxtops4education.com using the same email that's associated with your BTFE account.

Community Coffee Labels: Cut Community Coffee Products UPC labels. Proceeds help fund the AR and Library programs.

Coca-Cola Products: You can scan or enter Coca Cola product codes directly to the Coca-Cola app. Or search coca cola give to schools for donation to Jesse Owens Elementary or send the codes in to JOES. Proceeds help fund instructional materials, operating expenses, motivational incentives for staff and students and other expenditures that are not funded through other sources.

Scan codes in caps and in the boxes of Coca Cola products to donate to Jesse Owens Elementary. If you would prefer to save the caps and bring them to us we will scan them in.

Calls to the office

The office is a busy place of business - phone messages may get lost and not delivered. For that reason transportation changes CANNOT be made by a phone call. All transportation changes must be in writing prior to 2 pm. You may bring a handwritten not or email Shana.boudreaux@vpsb.net prior to 2 pm.

- Students will not be called to the office to answer phone calls.

Counselor Corner

Handle with care

If your family is experiencing difficulties at home, I would like to provide some additional support at school. I understand you may not always be able to provide details, and that’s OK. If your child is coming to school after a difficult morning, night or weekend, please email me at verna.broussard@vpsb.net with “handle with care - student name” in the subject line and I will make it a priority to check in on them
