Thank you to our OLMP Community for making Lent a success!
The end of Lent and the celebration of Easter wrapped up with a fun and faith filled assembly at the start of this week. The pillars of the Lenten season (Wednesday, March 6th to Thursday, April 18th) are prayer, fasting and giving.
Prayer was highlighted again this week with the help of St. Francis Parish and Mr. Murphy who coordinating a day of adoration at OLMP in the Chapel.
Congratulations to the 7B class for winning our Lenten fundraiser which emphasized the importance of giving while they sold the most plants for Mother's Day! The Fundraiser was a huge success! We raised around four thousand dollars. These funds will go towards Valeda house, which is a women's support centre in Edmonton. The money will also go towards the new church! A very big thank you to all who participated this year! The winning 7B class won an afternoon with snacks and a movie. Thank you to student leaders Cassandra Baska, Elizabeth Rogers, Rian Burke and Katie Stobbe who planned and organized this event and who will have input on a commemorative item for the new church.

OLMP Program Highlight
This week we are highlighting the Construction Program at OLMP headed by Mr. Wispinski.
Since OLMP’s refurbishment and the addition of a modern, fully equipped construction shop, OLMP has been proud to be able to offer a large range of High school and Middle school construction classes. The shop is equipped with all hand tools, power hand tools, and stationary power tools needed to instruct students in the construction arts.
With the wood turning lathes, students can produce bowls, spindles etc. The state of the art “Saw Stop” brand table saw assist students in safely ripping large pieces of plywood, creating box joints using the dado blades and cutting multiple identical pieces of wood safely using the cross-cut sled and taper cutting jig. The shop is a great place for students to get experience and confidence using a variety of tools.
The shop is also equipped with tenon cutting jigs in addition to bench hooks and bench vices that allow for safe and effective production of various components using tools including biscuit joiner, router, jig saw, etc.
Middle School - grade 5 Woods/STEAM class
Grade 5 students learn how to safely use hand tools such as pliers, hammers and vices when making string art wall hangers and pre-fab birdhouses.
Middle School - grades 7 and 8 Construction
Grades 7’s and 8’s are instructed in the safe use of hand tools in addition to various tools such as the band saw, power sander, scroll saw, spindle sander, drill press and mitre saw. These students begin with guided work on a project using the drill press and the scroll saw. They then move on to more complex projects using a greater variety of tools. (e.g. self designed birdhouses or self designed simple curio boxes)
High School Construction - grades 9 - 12)
Construction 10, 20 and 30 students will work on a wide variety of projects based on prerequisite courses they have earned credit for in Construction 10.
The CTS Construction at OLMP has developed by leaps and bounds in the last 4 years and will continue on this trajectory in order to offer our students the very best opportunity to engage in the construction arts.

Book Recommendation
Book Recommended: Matilda (young-adult)
Book Author: Roald Dahl
Recommended By: Mrs. Amanda (Wallace) Cholowski (OLMP Educational Assistant)
Book Description:
Matilda is a bright little girl who is very eager to learn. Eventually, her insensitive parents send her to a school run by Miss (The) Trunchbull. She is a cruel authoritarian that loathes children. Matilda befriends her school teacher, Miss Honey. She soon realizes Matilda's talents, but is later amazed to see the full extent of Matilda's powers.
Why It’s Recommended:
Matilda is a book about standing up against bullies, resisting pressure to change to suit others and just being happy with who you are. It’s a book that will make you smile, it is a great book for mothers to read with their daughters as it offers a great message with the use of humour. I think many young ladies could find a connection with Matilda’s character, my daughter loved this story.
