Room 105 News

Dear Families:
I hope that everyone had a wonderful spring and that adjustment back to school life has not been too rough. The kids came back bright, cheery, and ready to learn. I am writing to you after being a part of Jefferson's fantastic Community Meeting this morning! It was great to see families coming together to eat and work on making our school the best it can be. Thank you for coming, it was great seeing you there!
Our field trip to the Children's Creativity Museum is on Tuesday. If you have not turned in your permission slip please do by Monday. If you are not sure if it has been turned in, please check your student's blue folder OR his/her book bag--the permission slip may be lurking there.
Our non-fiction writing unit has begun. We kicked it off by studying owls. We will be focusing reading and writing non-fiction text. And there will be a special focus on understand the special features that non-fiction has (headings, captions, labels, diagrams, photographs, indexes, glossaries, tables of contents) and how we can use them to deepen our comprehension as well as enhance our writing.
We will also be starting "Poetry Fridays"! We will be immersing ourselves in poetry of all kinds and writing our own. Towards the end of May, you will be invited to a very special poetry reading in class!
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at: susannereed@berkeley.net
Thank you,
Susanne Reed
