LRC NEWS

Welcome back! Back to school means library books are coming home again!

Please help your children find a special place for school library books to be kept at home so that they don’t get mixed up with personal or public library books. School library books have a two week due date but students are welcome to return books earlier.

At Glen Grove School, we want students to be responsible for their materials so we ask that each student is checking he/her account so that he/she knows what they have checked out and when their books are due. Overdue books will not be fined. If a student can’t find a missing book, we ask that he/she pays for the missing book. If the book is found within the school year, we are happy to refund the money.

What do students have checked out?

They can check on any device at any time what books they have checked out and when they are due just by logging in to their account on the Destiny Discover Catalog, our NEW circulation system in the district.

Go to the Glen Grove School website: http://gg.glenview34.org/

  • Click on LRC or Students

  • Click on library catalog

  • Click on Log In (on the top right side)

  • Type in the student’s log-in (example: l_funke)

A student uses his/her first initial, underscore and last name. (Some students are assigned their first two initials, underscore and last name.)

  • Type the NEW district password

  • Click Go

  • Click on the three lines (the Hamburger on the top left side)

Click on Checkouts (midway on the list)

The titles checked out and the due dates for each will show on the screen. If there are no titles showing up then nothing is currently checked out.

Are you interested in volunteering? The Glen Grove library is looking for people to help shelve books, organize the Celebrating With Books program, decorate the window displays and other special activities. There is no experience necessary to volunteer. We will teach you all you need to know to help in the library. Volunteer once a week or once a month, it’s up to you! We welcome any and all the help that fits your schedule. If you are interested, please contact Lisa Funke, the librarian at lfunke@glenview34.org or call the school at 998-5030.

From the Nurse's Office

Students requiring any medications during school hours must file a medication form with the health office. This form requires a physician’s signature as well as a parent’s signature. This form can be found under the Parents Tab on the district website in the health and wellness file. All medication brought to school must be in an appropriately labeled pharmacy container. This also includes over-the-counter medicine such as Tylenol, Advil, Cough Drops, etc.

Just a reminder....if your child is out sick with a fever or vomiting please make sure they do not return to school until they are fever free or symptom free for 24 hours.

If your children come to school after 7:45 a.m. please have them come through the front office. This is for the safety of all of our students.

All student absences should be called into the health office no later than 7:55 a.m. at (847) 657-2394! The school has voicemail so parents can call the health office to leave messages at any time.

Parent Visits and Our Security System

We welcome any parents who would like to visit our school and we ask that you:

  • Please call your child’s teacher to arrange an appointment if you want to visit a classroom.
  • All visitors (including parents) will be asked to present valid state issued identication (drivers license or state i.d.) that will be entered into the system before gaining access to the school beyond the main office.
  • Sign in at the office so that we know you are in the building. We ask that you wear a District 34 visitor lanyard when visiting.
  • Please sign out and return the lanyard when leaving the building.
  • If you plan to take your child out of the building during school hours, please sign him/her out in the office.
  • We invite you to eat lunch with your child at school. Please call ahead of time to make arrangements with your child’s teacher.

Change In Dismissal Arrangements

If you need to change the after school pick-up arrangements for your child, please send a note to you child's teacher. If you need to change arrangements at the last minute, during the school day, please make sure you call our office before 2:00 p.m. to inform us of the change. There is a lot going on in a school office both at the beginning and the end of the school day. By calling before 2:00 p.m., you are giving the front office staff the time needed to locate classroom teachers and communicate the message regarding the pick-up arrangements for your child in a timely manner.

Transportation

All students are expected to have a consistent manner of getting home each day (bus, walking, car ride, and bicycle).

  • Students may NOT change buses to go home with a friend.
  • Students who live west or along Milwaukee (Castilian Court, Cove Lane, Dearlove Triangle) or in a designated safety hazard are NOT permitted to ride bikes or walk to school. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD and the reason that bussing is provided for these students.

If you have any question or concerns about transportation, please feel free to contact the Director of Transportation, ROB CONNER at (847) 998-5064.

Bus Safety Rules...

  • Buckle Up. You must buckle your seatbelt immediately after sitting down.
  • Follow Directions. You must respectfully listen to your bus driver and do what is asked of you.
  • Be Respectful, Caring and Kind. You must never tease, intentionally bother, or say unkind words to others on the bus.
  • Remain seated. The only time you should be up and walking is when the bus is at a standstill and you are entering OR exiting the bus.
  • Keep Hands, Feet, and Objects to Yourself. You should never be physically touching, hurting, playing, or play fighting with others.
  • Keep Hands, Feet, and Objects Inside the Bus. Never put anything – not a body part, and not an object- outside the window of the bus.
  • Food and Drinks Are Not Allowed While Riding the Bus
  • Ride ONLY Your Assigned Bus & Get Off ONLY at Your Assigned Bus Stop. You may NOT change buses to ride to a friend’s house. A note from your parent is needed in order to get off at stop other than the one you are assigned to.

Consequences for Breaking The Bus Safety Rules...

The first time you are referred to the office for breaking a bus safety rule, you will write a reflection/apology and call your parent.

The second time you are referred to the office for breaking a bus safety rule, you will call your parent and write a reflection/apology during your recess period. Your assigned seat may also be changed at this time.

The third time you are referred to the office for breaking a bus rule, you will be suspended from riding the bus for a period of time. Being transported to and from school by bus is a student privilege, not a right, so if you consistently violate bus rules, you will not be able to ride the bus for a period of time. This means your family must find another way to get you to and from school while you are suspended from the bus.
