Better Together
Greetings Eagle Families,
It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of Term One (Wednesday, October 19th). As we begin to wrap up the first quarter, this is a perfect time for our students and their families to reflect on how the first 45 days have gone. I would encourage all of our families to take time and review grades in Schoology, review individual class grade for missing assignments from the second half of the term (due Wednesday, October 12th), and work on setting goals for Term Two.
This month's Community SOAR Report is packed with a lot of information. Please take a moment to read all of the updates and review the calendar for all upcoming events. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need anything. I appreciate your continued support and collaboration. Your efforts help ensure that we are #OMSBetterTogether!
Sincerely,
Daniel L. Enck
Principal

Important Information
Attendance - If your child is unable to attend school due to an illness or doctor's appointment, or any other reason, please email a note to our attendance secretary, Ms. Nancy Sanders at oms.attendance@fcps.org. Please include your child's first and last name, grade, date of absence, and reason for absence. If Ms. Sanders has any questions she will reach out for clarification.
- If Ms. Sanders does not hear from you before 9:00AM on the day of the absence, you will receive a One Call Now Attendance Notification for your child.
- If your child has an appointment, please send them to school with a note which can be turned in to the front office in the morning. Your child will be given a pass and will be ready to go at the desired dismissal time without having to disrupt the classroom.
- For the 2022-2023 School Year, Oakdale Middle School will be sending attendance letters when a student accumulates three, five, seven, and ten unexcused absences. The purpose of this letter is to notify parents/guardians of the unexcused absences and the possible academic impact that can occur if a student accumulates to many unexcused absences in a term and throughout the school year.
- All students should be in the building by 8:06 to ensure that they are in their first period class before the final bell rings at 8:12.
Bus Delay Information - A quick and easy resource to check if your child's bus is delayed is to visit https://apps.fcps.org/transdelay/ This site is updated in real-time to reflect any bus delays.
Car Riders - We are beginning to see a significant rise in the number of car riders arriving at or after 8:12. Parents/Guardians, we are asking for your help to make sure that your child is at school and in first period on time. We are asking that all car riders be dropped off by 8:06 to ensure they have enough time to walk into the building and be in their first period class at 8:12. Students arriving after 8:12 will need to check-in at the front office and will be marked tardy for first period.
Chromebooks - OMS is fortunate to have several spare Chromebooks which are issued to students on an as needed basis. If a student is given a spare Chromebook, they are expected to return the device to Mr. Hanson, OMS User Support Specialist at the end of the day. Parents/Guardians, if your child comes home with an OMS spare Chromebook, please make sure that they return it to Mr. Hanson at the beginning of the following day.
End of Term - We are rapidly approaching the end of Term One (Wednesday, October 19th). As a reminder, if your child has missing assignments or needs to complete a re-assessment, please encourage them to do so as soon as possible. The deadline to submit missing assignments and re-dos/reassessment is (Wednesday, October 12th - one week prior to end of term). If you have questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher. All students also have access to free online tutors 24 hours a day using the TutorMe link in Schoology.
FCPS Regulation Review - All schools are required to share the following FCPS Regulations:
- Regulation 500 - 32: Replacement of Lost or Damaged Instructional Materials
- Regulation 400 - 73: Responsible Use of Digital Technology
- Regulation 400 - 48: Bullying, Harassment, Intimidation Complaint Process for Students
- Regulation 500 - 05: Grading, Reporting, and Intervention-Secondary
Security and Emergency Management - Every FCPS student will learn in a safe and secure environment. Administrators and their School Emergency Management Teams are trained to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from emergency situations in or near our schools. The videos below provide valuable information for parents in the event that our school would need to respond to an emergency. When you have a moment, please consider watching these videos on school safety.

- 2021 Updates to the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) for School Safety (YouTube video)

Students Reporting Security Concerns - "See Something, Say Something" and "Don't repost it. Report it" - Encourage students to report security concerns to a trusted adult (parent, school staff member, school administrator, SRO, or a local law enforcement agency). Students may also anonymously report concerns using the Safe Schools Maryland Tip Line at 833-MD-B-SAFE. In an emergency, call 911. Additional resources can be found on each school's website and the FCPS web site.
Tutor Me - All Frederick County Public Schools middle and high school students have 24/7 access to virtual tutoring services for help on any subject. Students can receive assistance through audio/video chats or through a messaging system. Assistance/Support is available on virtually any subject matter. This includes getting feedback on written assignments and essays. Support is also available through Tutoring Me for students preparing for Advanced Placement exams. Students can access Tutor Me using the Clever portal. Details of how to do so can be accessed by clicking HERE.
