March 18, 2019 Regular Board Meeting

The Board of Education provides a "Board Meeting Summary" after each Board meeting. The summary includes a brief description of the main topics and action items. These summaries are not meant to replace minutes. The minutes for each meeting are approved and posted after the next regularly scheduled meeting. We hope these summaries provide some basic information and context around the reports, presentations and action items. Superintendent's Report | watch

  • Student Recognition - Reflections
    PTA Council Reflections Chair Dr. Lynn Bruno shared information about the PTA Reflections art contest history and background. The theme this year was “Heroes Around Me.” Dr. Gordon presented seven students with medals for advancing to the state level. Two of the students received honorable mentions at state and were given gift certificates to Blicks art supply store provided by the PTA. Several of the students shared what their projects were about and the meaning behind them.

  • Special Education Strategic Plan Committee Update
    Director of Student Services Laurel O’Brien presented an overview of the work happening with the strategic plan committee and how the work is being integrated across the district. Laurel updated the board on year two goals and will be working with the committee to develop year three goals. She shared that the parents are willing and open to being partners in this work. Ms. O’Brien, as well as the principals, answered Board member questions and engaged in discussion about the topic.

  • Network and Wireless Refresh
    Director of Technology Mike Wood presented a summary of the refresh plan.
  • Tentative Staffing Plan
    Superintendent Gordon updated that nothing has changed to date. President Clark shared that the Board does not have to approve the staffing plan because the Board will review and approve this information during the overall budget process.
  • Last Day of the School Year
    Dr. Gordon provided an overview of the calendar through the end of the year. The Board will vote on this at an upcoming meeting. Administration recommends the following:
    - Wednesday, June 5, 2019, be designated as the last attendance day for all half-day programs (Kindergarten, Pre-Kindergarten and Early Childhood)
    - Thursday, June 6, 2019, as the last student attendance for grades 1 through 8 with a noon dismissal
    - Friday, June 7, 2019 the last teacher work day. Hadley graduation will take place on Thursday, June 6, 7 p.m., at Glenbard West.

Erica Nelson presented a District 41 Letter of Support for the ISBE 2020 Budget Recommendation. The Board agreed to bring this topic back at the April 8 meeting to allow more time for review.
