COUNSELOR'S CORNER
“Welcome back and welcome spring!” It’s wonderful seeing students back at McKinley. As your student’s school counselor, I’m here to help students adjust to hybrid learning. That adjustment might be getting up earlier in the morning, preparing clothes and materials for the day, eating a well-balanced diet, sleep, and seeking out healthy social connections. I am a resource to help with student needs. Salem has many family resources available for you to access. Feel free to call or e-mail concerns to me at McKinley and I’m glad to help. ~Mrs. Tanikawa mailto:TANIKAWA_AMY@salkeiz.k12.or.us
Native Club meets every Tuesday at 3 pm on Google Meets. Students can access the club on their Seesaw or Canvas classroom pages, following the Indian Education Logo.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Enrolling your child in school early allows our school to prepare for the best possible education. Although the district will not know how school may look next fall, enrolling early, your kindergarten students are sure to thrive with the support of trained educators with in-person and online learning options.
Children who will be 5-years-old on or before September 10, 2021 are eligible to register for free, full-day kindergarten with SKPS. Learn more about how to complete online registration on our district website.
To complete registration, you will need an updated record of your child’s immunizations, proof of residence and your proof of age with you to register.
We welcome all students, regardless of nationality or place of birth. To learn more about kindergarten registration, how to prepare your child for school and Salem-Keizer Public Schools, please visit our district website for more information and to register.

FREE MEALS AVAILABLE
Meals available at all elementary, middle, and high schools
While your student is in school for hybrid learning, they will receive all their meals at school, at no cost. Hybrid learning students will be fed breakfast and lunch on site and will be offered a supper as they leave. Each student is allowed one breakfast, one lunch, and one supper per day so that means parents cannot pick up meals from the Grab-N-Go sites when their student is on site for hybrid learning. On the days your student is not on site for hybrid learning, meals are available at any of the Grab-N-Go sites throughout the community.
Grab-N-Go meal sites will be open at all elementary schools from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with all middle and high schools distribution from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Meals are free for any child or teen ages 1-18, and adults with special needs ages 18-21 who are enrolled in a Salem-Keizer Public Schools program.
Breakfast, lunch and supper
We are now including suppers in the Grab-N-Go meal bag. Each bag contains breakfast, lunch and supper. If you are picking up multiple bags, we recommend bringing your own bag to help carry the amount of food being distributed.
