Anti-Bullying Presentation Coming March 7th!
“Hey Dude, Nice Shoes”
Bullying.
Its seems like this is the new buzz word of a generation. Why is this word creeping into our daily lives and weekly headlines? How can we stop it? How can we teach our children about it? Who is at risk and how we can help them? Learn how to define bullying and gather tools to help protect your child from its effects.
‘Hey Dude, Nice Shoes’ is a specifically tailored two part presentation for students and their parents. Presenter Carolyn Brown, helps decode and navigate through this incredibly complex and prevalent social epidemic.
Hey Dude, Nice Shoes
Is coming to BBES
On Wednesday, March 7th, 2018
Parent presentation at 6:00pm
From the speaker, Carolyn Jennings Brown: “Hey Dude, Nice Shoes” is an anti-bullying/pro-kindness workshop for students and their parents. This past fall alone I had the amazing opportunity to speak to more than 10,000 Texas students! My workshop is two parts. I speak to the students during the day and the parents in the evening.
Lower School Presentation- 30 -45 minutes (Wednesday during specials for grades 2, 3, and 4)
(geared towards younger students or Pre-Smart phone age students)
Defining behaviors. What is the difference between rude, mean and bullying?
What do you do if you see bullying?
Who do you tell? How?
What if I am being bullied?
How can I react in the moment?
Why does this happen?
What are my school's policies and procedures?
How can we all help?
Why does this happen?
How can we make a difference?
During this presentation I touch on the above topics as well as many personal stories and lessons in kindness. It is an uplifting and inspiring lesson encouraging students to humanize their peers and become a positive force in the community.
Parent Presentation- 1 hour 20 minutes (Wednesday evening at 6:00 pm)
Covers topics discussed in upper school presentation (listed below) in addition to parent support topics.
Defining behaviors? What IS bullying?
Reporting vrs Tattling
How can I react in the moment?
No innocent bystanders.
Speak up.
Why does this happen?
Why is Bullying different now?
Cyberbulling
What are my school's policies and procedures?
David's Law/ SB179
How can we make a difference?
During this presentation I touch on the above topics as well as many personal stories and lessons in kindness. This presentation dives deeper into some heavier topics. I tell the stories of Peyton James and David Molack (David's Law namesake) and how they were victims of bullying and it ultimately and tragically ended their lives. As a board member of the Pediatric Advisory Council at St David's children's hospital I share information about our climbing self harm and suicide rates. Cyber bullying is defined and discussed as well and recent legislation pertaining to the criminalization of cyber bullying in the State of Texas. While this presentation is heavier, it is important and overall an uplifting and inspiring lesson encouraging students to humanize their peers and become a positive force in the community.
