Resurrection Weekly Update #9
The Way to Stay in Touch with All Things Res: 10/16 - 10/20
The Principal's Corner
As we begin the final preparations for open house, I admit that I am more excited than I have been before! We have so many awesome programs that are new and either underway or in development (college advisory, specific social/emotional programming, STEAM program, Mother Celine Scholars, redesigned ACT prep, Faith Service Integration program, Kairos, UbD development and preparation for DataWise programing) to name a few!
As I mentioned last week, it is important for us to always step back and evaluate what we are doing. In that context, I think it is even more important to consider the how we are doing it. Let's consider essential questions. On the surface, I see how they can be viewed as simply another way of asking questions. I also see how, after some experience with them, the thinking tends to shift to a view of essential questions as a means to frame student understanding. Later on, when in practice, a teacher can see how the incorporation of essential questions transforms a students understanding of and connection to content and skills. On the surface, we evaluate a need for essential questions as a means to frame our practice. The intention, which is the MOST important element, is to ground student understandings in a way that helps them see the world holistically, critically and grounded in a Catholic world view. We do this so that students can come to know more fully their gifts and talents and how they will use them to follow God's will.
As you welcome future students into our building next week, I would like for you to consider two items. What are stand for, what we hope to achieve, and our traditions have brought these young women to Resurrection. That is the first item. The second is this: remember their hopes, dreams, and expectations and use them to fuel your fire for continuous professional development! Last week I showed a video about students needed a champion. YOU are their champions!
I would also like to announce Kari Rogers will not return to Resurrection following her maternity leave. We are thankful to Kari for all of her work with our Dance, PE and Orchesis programs. We wish her well as she takes on an even more demanding responsibility, motherhood, and entrust her to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, exemplar of all mothers! I am VERY excited to announce the full-time appointment of Molly McLoughlan, '12, to Resurrection effective immediately. Molly will assume leadership of the dance program as well as teach PE with the support of Ms. Salerno, her Curriculum Coordinator.
Finally, although very early, the first round of RtI interventions has concluded and we are ALREADY seeing positive results with our students in need of academic support! More specific information will come soon.
What I am (still) working on....
1. STREAM integration and a connection to a university partnership.
2. College advising process for future 9th and 10th grade students.
3. Mother Celine Scholars programming.
4. UbD part two.
5. Datawise evaluation and possible rollout
6. Many other things :)
THINK big....START small...GO FOR the early win!
Amen,
Mr. P

Instruction & Technology Updates
Blended Learning
For teachers who were unable to attend last Thursday's Lunch & Learn on Blended Learning and Schoology, please feel free to go through the presentation to see what was presented and discussed. In our 1:1 learning environment, blended learning really is an instructional approach that should be utilized in conjunction with other instructional methods/approaches. Our next Lunch & Learn topic will be "Setup for Success: Organizing Your Course and Materials for Student Learning" and will be held on Friday October 27th.

Curriculum Updates
Faculty Professional Development
Objectives for 10/19/2017:
1. Solidify understandings of essential question characteristics and connotation.
2. Review completed units (which will be provided) and provide effective feedback following a checklist and rubric.
3. Draft essential questions and consider their relationship to understandings.
Remember, please send any questions that need clarification to your Curriculum Coordinator by Tuesday evening. The Coordinator will review any questions and send Mr. P a few that are representative of the group.
Spiritual Reflections
Consider the Prayer of Pope Francis to Our Lady of Fatima:
Hail, Mother of the Lord,
Virgin Mary, Queen of the Rosary of Fatima!
Blessed among all women,
you are the image of the Church robed in paschal light,
you are the honour of our people,
you are the victory over every assault of evil.
Prophecy of the merciful love of the Father,
Teacher of the Message of Good News of the Son,
Sign of the burning Fire of the Holy Spirit,
teach us, in this valley of joys and sorrows,
the eternal truths that the Father reveals to the little ones.
Show us the strength of your protective mantle.
In your Immaculate Heart,
be the refuge of sinners
and the way that leads to God.
In union with my brothers and sisters,
in faith, in hope and in love,
I entrust myself to you.
In union with my brothers and sisters, through you, I consecrate myself to God,
O Virgin of the Rosary of Fatima.
Student Services
Sheri and Mary continue to meet with the Sophomore students for their individual appointments.
They have been consulting and collaborating with teachers and parents about various student needs.

Happy Birthday!
